The benefits of having more than 1 landy

I have a 6hr drive today to go down and pick some simex and rims off of Belly down near margret river.. the thought of spending 6hrs in the Recarro with no CD or functional airconditioner with only the rattles and the drumming of the Defender has had me commandere the wifes Disco Aircon, tinted, Pioneer sound system, quiet
The Toy is a great fun beast off road but I really have to get it sorted for the longer trips, ie make some sort of quick release for interchanging the seats, get the windows tinted, a decent sound system and a functional aircon..
Defender owners what set up do you have for rear speakers?

I had 6x9 3-way speakers in boxes above the rear door of the County. I had a Pioneer system with front and rear outputs (supposedly 45w per channel) and a CD stacker fitted (both removed before I sold the County - the speakers were left in place).

It was a vast improvement. The next bit was to install a tweeter in the headlining above each front door (but I sold the County before I did it). A friend in the LROC had this in his Defender and it was good.

Fitting better speakers in the front of a County (dunno about Defender) is difficult owing to the fact that the depth available for the speakers in the dash is very restricted. The original speakers are very slim.

Now you know why I like the P38A. It has climate control and an 11-speaker (including sub-woofer) sound system as standard and which is very good.

    Dawg,
I have a Pioneer system in my Fender. Cant recall the exact deck unit off hand but it is a CD/mp3 unit with 200w 6x9 speakers up the back. The fronts are standard LR at the momment but will get changed out to 100w units sometime (as they are only 4"). Just made some rear boxes and mounted them on aluminium angle attached to the inner frame. Required cutting of the plastic trim. the only downside is I had to face them down to fit, so not perfect accoustics.

These speaker power ratings are immaterial in most car audio installations unless you are fitting doof doof amplifiers.

This is true, however the better the quality and higher capacity speakers generally result in better quality and clarity sound. Not always the case, there are some really crappy speakers. The sound clarity, sound level etc does increase eg compared to 100w Pioneer speakers that I tried as well for comparrison. Both sets were 3 way reasonable quality. A speaker box with sound deadening behind it helps as well.
The 200w option also give you scope to add a decent amp later if you want.
