The first solar panels - at least the ones in the 70's, were found to never save the energy it took to build them too![]()
At least a Disco is good for 20 years. (then they get better)

I remember a few years ago Ford released the Explorer as a hybrid in the USA. Their website had a calculator where you could enter your fuel economy figures and compare them to the hybrid Explorer.
I entered the worst possible economy figures for my Range Rover and after 80,000km of driving at it's worst economy (urban cycle) the Rangie was still cheaper!!!!!!! That's because every 80K the hybrid needed a new $8,000 battery pack!!!!
If politicians decide to give rebates for GREEN cars, then we should be able to get FREE rego for Land Rovers. Consider this :
Average car lives 10 years
Land Rover lives 40 years
Water & energy taken to produce given tonnage of steel per car.
Fuel consumed for life expectancy of car.
Enviromental impact : bigger tyres = less pressure (per sq inch) on the road, constant 4WD means less force applied to loose surfaces (force spread over two axles instead of one)
Steel rusts, Aluminium is recyclable.
Other parts are always used to repair older landys and keep them going (hence recycled several times without any manufacturing process) whereas moulded parts on regular cars just become land fill.
It's called a Land Rover because it's at one with the Land.
Top Gear did a quick take on this about 6 months ago, comparing the Prius with a new Mercedes 630. The Mercedes won without so much as a blink because it's got so many recyclable parts and efficient construction techniques, while the Prius is a toxic waste nightmare! The Prius' fuel figures are also bogus - you need to drive like a grandma to get those figures and leave the car empty. You take a good TD 4wd and fill it up and calculate the cost per kg of useability. The Prius will hide in shame.

A test was done in the US little while ago were they drove a petrol/electric hybrid and a new common rail diesel of the same vehicle(think they were ML merc's) across the country and the diesel used less fuel doing it. So if new vehicles all have to pass stringent emissions test's and the diesel used less fuel then you'd think straight up theres less emissions(less fuel less emisson).
And will the greenies listen to this logic ?
You bet your sweet patootie they won't !!!!
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
