Hi ron, what about that 6 wheel defender thing thats been advertised in the 4x4 trader every month for the last 12 months or so. It started at $85000 they are now asking only $39990, it has everything, its a house on wheels

Here is the description in the trader

Land Rover Perentie 6x6 Camper, 1987, powerful 3.9L Izusu Diesel, a/c, power/steer, tripple diff air lockers, Front and rear winch, 300L fuel and water tanks, GPS, $39990

Problem is its in perth, but would be an awsome buy, how bloody good would be 6x6 with tripple diff locks. This suits all your needs, its a land rover, has an izusu engine, and is well and truly kitted out for touring, and you dont have to set up camp each night, its already set up, just climd in the back for a snooze.

    Here is a pic

Steam only. All I know about electric trains is that they are silver and nearly all diesels look the same.

The original pricing is just another example of "I spent this much on it so it is worth it". The fact is that when you come to sell a car it is never worth as much as you spend on it (except very rarely in special situations). And this is especially so when you heavily modify a vehicle as in this case, as the cost of the modification will be high relative to the results as in this case, and nobody else will value the modification as much as the originator of them - in fact it may in a lot of cases devalue the vehicle.

A simple example is fitting a new engine to a vehicle in place of a worn out one - the increase in value of the vehicle varies from nothing to a small fraction of what the engine cost, let alone the cost of fitting it. (value in this context means "what you can sell it for")

Even where you can greatly increase the value (for example by restoring an historic vehicle) it is very rare that the increase in value is anything like the cost of the restoration, even without putting a price on your own labour.

The obvious has already been stated by others & by your inner self Ron:

1 : You are travelling on your own.

2 : You miss your County.

    3 : Buy a Defender.

I got mine ('97 300 Tdi) with 112,000km, OME Suspension, IPF Spotties x 4, Roof Rack, Cruise Control, Turbo Timer, Compressor, Front & Rear Diff Locks, UHF, Bullbar Bar with highmount winch, recovery gear, workshop manuals, Long Range Tank, Kaymar rear wheel carrier, 2 new spares, cargo barrier, tow bar, window tint, A/C, o/head console for $18K. with RWC.

And when you're travelling and sending pics to the grand kids, they'll see their pop as an adventurer, not some retiree in a Toyota station wagon.

    Get a Defender.
(I haven't seen the Toy Otter due to the Trojan warning on the site, but I'm sure it's a nice station wagon).

Fortunately I don't have any grandkids.

While I love the look of the Defender, I'm not sure a Defender is for me. Having owned a County, I know the disadvantages of ownership.

I remember seeing that advertised a couple of years back before I bougt my Fender for over $100k. I thought what a rig then, but way out of my price. $39k is a lot better and if I did not already have the Fender would be interested.
To whomever bought it we expect a detailed report.
