My concerns are that some of the photos we have show that the pod has a lip on it that fits under the facia (see photo) and that the Aussie fitted air con screws to the front of the facia so without some modification eg removal of lip or cutting or sliding behind the air con bracket it won't fit
    what are others opinions?
However! there are photos of the pod that seems not to have the lip so maybe the design has been changed
I have one of these (brought it back with me from the UK last month), and yes Dave, you are quite correct. The console will not fit with our Australian spec A/C in place without some modification. The lip under the pod will need to be cut off as you suggest. Having said that, it's only plastic so a few minutes with a hacksaw should sort it out.

Well, I haven't fitted it yet. I've just held it in place to see what needs modifying. I'll try and get some pix tonight to post up what I mean.

OK, here's the slight problem. The bottom lip on the pod will need removing to fit with Aus spec A/C units.

Shouldn't be a major job to cut it down, but there's no way it'll fit as it is.

    from mud uk

    repy back from Mud

There is only one console design. However, there are two different fitting kits that takes into account the different dash designs of Td5 models and earlier vehicles.

I sent a reply the other day to Cameron Little from the forum explaining we were looking into the air-con compatibility issue. Tdi Defenders with air-con have to my knowledge never been sold in the UK so in the absence of a donor vehicle on which to try a console, we can't say 100% for sure that the console will fit. Your own air-con for example is fitted in a style that is different to the Td5 models and certainly not something I have never seen in the UK. We have however previously supplied plenty of consoles to the USA, Australia and South Africa where air-con fitment is common and so-far, I can report we've not had a single piece of negative feedback from any customer to say they've had problems fitting the unit.

The bottom of the console is fixed by attaching screws up into the bottom of the dash. As you've correctly figured this will be difficult with the air-con unit fitted. Since Cameron's initial enquiry raised the air-con issue for the very first time, we've already introduced a couple of changes to the fitting kit that should make life easier if you've air-con fitted. Up until now, the console has been secured with two screws in the end plates (the screw you can see above the mic in the pic) and two more screws into the bottom of the dash. We have now added a further screw hole to each end plate so that the console can now be secured using four screws into the main mounting frame. We reckon the lip at the bottom of the console should tuck down between the top of the air-con unit and the dash, however you may need to trim a piece a piece off the air-con edging trim in order for the console to fit snugly against the dash. This will be easy once you've cut the section of dash away immediately above it. On Td5 models the bottom of the console should just slide down over the rubber edging strip attached to the top of the air-con housing.

The pic I have attached illustrates how much of the dash tray needs to be cut away.

The critical dimensions of the console are:
    Overall width: 355mm
    Central recess: W 190mm, H 126mm
    Upper recess: W 190mm, H 58mm

As you can see from Paul a fitting problem with the Aussie fitted air con that hopefully can be solved and Mud has added more fitting points.

Paul will there be interference with the air con vent?
