Where do I get a BIG metal box from?

I want to get a big metal box for the drawbar of the trailer I am building. Something like 1000x600x500 would be good. Any ideas where I should start looking in Melbourne? I'm sure that there must be companies that just make big metal boxes!

Try a sheetmetal place, most of them are happy to do one-offs. Something that size, I'd seriously consider aluminium, and don't forget to consider the downforce on your towbar (for legalities) when you load it.

SuperCheep have some big galvanised toolboxes - Bunnings I think too. You may want something more heavy duty though ....
Or there's there's a place on Maroondah Highway in Mitcham near Range Rov Automotive that makes up very nice aluminium chequerplate ones to your spec- can't remember their name - Nunawading Trailers or something. I'm sure there are other places will do it too.

    No, thats called a Defender!

Thanks Wayne, I will call into that place and see what they charge to make something up. I will also call into Supercheap and see what they have.

I have already allowed for 100kg of box on the bar........but the 2 batteries I just bought weigh 63kg!!!!!!.

If 900x600x300 would do - then check army disposals places. They army used to use as kit boxes these before they switched to plastic. There are plenty floating around, I have 2. I think it is no coincidence that they just fit (lengthways) between the wheel boxes of a series or 110.

You could of course just make one, Just to be silly have you considered fibreglass or plastics?

    Adam,
There was a stand at the 4x4 show with a heap of very nice alloy checker plate boxes of every size and shape imaginable. I got a brochure, but as I only just flew home today I'll have to unpack before I find it.
