When people speak of the D1 I don't think many mention whether it is an update or not as we Disco people know that the D1 changed significantly between 1993 and 1994. I had a post to determine the actual month it happened earlier this week.
Just off the top of my head the early D1 had initially only 3 doors and 3.5 V8 and LT95?? 5 speed manual, 10 spline axles, different interior (sometimes blue yuck). It had smaller headlights, different grille, different tail light arrangement with none in the bumper. Later early models had 5 doors, 200tdi diesel and ZF auto to choose from. I personally don't see many of these around and there doesn't seem to be much talk on this site about them.
As for the D1 update (on top of the above mentioned differences) it got the 3.9 V8, 300tdi diesel, R380 manual, 24 spline axles. An interior that doesn't make you want to puke.

There are many other smaller differences but they are the biggies.

Ok then the D1 and for the sake of arguemnt well call it a D1A counts,

I'll clarify what counts to get on the list (its up for 3 hours and its blown out of control...cool)

If I drove the base model off the factory floor and parked it next to another vehicle, forgiving colors and door count, If it was obviously different to another version then it counts. Option packs and accessories that can be added post facotry dont count. that means bull bars, tow packs or anything else that cannot be seen.

A series II and IIA doesnt really count, joe on the street would be hard pressed to spot the difference if i parked em side by side... but makes it in as they are frequently referenced as a different vehicle.

A D1 and D1a does count, the headlights and grill are different.

A D110 and D110 Extreme does not count. They are the same base model vehicle but with a different option pack.

Im not super sure on the army ones so the perentine didnt get a mention yet, I aim to have a MIL section and will liase with the guys who have those ones for that section.

Sometime the OneTen (110) Land-Rover is refered to by its proper name, not by the standard option pack descriptor "County." The term "County" can be applied to late model Series III right through to current model Defenders, in the UK. It just happened to be that only the County spec OneTen was imported to Oz.

And as for the "Joe on the street" picking one model from another - my father thought the Defender Xtreme was about the same age as my Stage 1.

Hey I said no pointing that out.. ...OR am I going to have to segregate the list again into

Landrover, any square sided landrover you can hose out
    (insert series/defender/county lists here)

Toff nosed poser mobile, Any 4x4 with a green oval that you cant hose out
    (put the rest here)

and this is The Australian Land Rover Owners Forum. If the Poms dont want to differeciate between the things they make we will.

The give away from a D110 to a series...

an inch or two between the wheels and no hole in the bumper to open the beers with.

ITs going to be long enough list just worrying about the aussie versions of the bloody things let alone the pommy, american, african and any other nations versions.

    .
Just thought i'd point out that if one wishes to do so one could get the gernie out on ones "toff nosed poser mobile" just as easily as you could on a defender. It's just the interior might smell a bit for a month or two after the event, but it is possible and has been done before.

Mine needs a hose out at the moment

120 was an Australian special, but not aftermarket. And note that County is a trim level, not a model - the only 110 wagon sold in Australia was the County, but the cab/chassis and hartop 110s sold here were not County trim.

I would also point out that before the Discovery the model was "Landrover 110", then became "Landrover Defender 110".
