As a MY99 it should be a Td5. Is the mileage genuine???? Looks a bit on the lowish side to me.Originally Posted by Wazza

Also from the photo it's got a checker plate rear door. That would suggest the door was probably chopped, again roll-over. Also the number plate is no longer on the rear left and it and the light have been moved, why?
My advice would be to be very careful with the purchase, worst case would be a cut'n'shut job, best would be it's legit.
The other thing is compare the Compliance plate date to the build date of the VIN (see this link for a good example of what to look for http://www.dingocroft.co.uk/vin_numbers.htm) The VIN should indicate a 98 build (WAnnnnnn) if it is a 99 registered vehicle. Check also that it wasn't from a CKD (complete knock down) or a non-Solihull build
Also the asking price is IMO way to high. I just bought a low mileage 300Tdi 99 Compliance plate and payed a lot, lot less.

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
doesn't that depend on whether it was registered in 99 it might be a 98 model registered in 99Originally Posted by Jojo
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
on closer look some other things arent lining up either
Like there is 2 plates one saying it is a 5 seater another saying it is a 9 seater
It says it is a 6/99 on the plate
definately a tdi motor in it though
I have sold my 1997 Defender but I think it had 2 compliance plates on it although one probably was a mod plate for the extra 4 person seats in the back. It would pay to really check this one out.
If it has a 9 seater engineering plate... does it still have the inward facing rear seats?
I'll have to check my Defender but I don't believe it has 2 plates only the one for 9 seats. Each plate should have a date MM/YY on it I believe so check which is the later.
All sounds dodgy to me.
As for year I think we have to realise it isn't a 99MY rover but that was the year it was registered (compliance plate).

Seems like a lot of $$$$ for it!
Love those mini moke style side curtains!
Nice colour....curious wheels???
Why do I have a funny feeling its ex South Africa?

It can only legally have ONE VIN/Compliance Plate regardless of it's history, or country of original rego.
It may have a mod plate, or a low volume import plate, etc,etc
PM me the Vin no. and I'll let you know where it's from.
The rear door obviously wouldn't be standard if its got a full length soft top, don't stress about that. The wheels are a bit iffy too. My money is on a Sth African machine, and maybe a roll over - but if the body and chassis are straight and aligned, and it checks out - and you're happy with it - go for it.
A WOVR check or certificate will tell you if it's been an insurance write off.
I reckon it's great - but do your homework.
wouldnt you get a fair bit of flex without the side support,![]()
It will certainly need a support of some kind for the B pillars, usually a cross bar, and possibly some sort of support for the front of the tub, although I don't think the hard top provides a lot of support for that. Seat belt mounts both front and rear also pose a problem, and perhaps it has roll bars in both places to solve both problems.Originally Posted by DirtyDawg
