Pshaaaww! That bloke sounds like an angel compared to some of my customers!
hmmmm I feel a long running thread happening here ....
Background: I WAS Self employed PC tech. $40 min call out first hr inc.
About two years ago I went to a blokes house, he explained the problem I put a tick in the right box and I was done, took me 60 seconds to fix.
Bear in mind I was mobile, lived about 20 mins away and about 20mins to my next jobs. I stated $40 min call out before I got there. Oh yer, and I knew how to fix it
He got really pi$$ed when I asked for my $40. He said I was ripping him of because it only took a few seconds to fix. He paid me, told me to get out and he would never call me again.
So it would have been OK with him to charge $40 if I had sat and clicked stuff , (ie didn't know what I was doing) for 20 mins then asked for $40 ???
================================================
The following are all true and happened to me in the last couple of years:
I am now employed as a pc tech for a company.
user: can i have a new black ink cartridge mine is running out?
me: yer, no problem
user: can I have a spare white one as well for when it runs out?
me: ermmmmm
==========================
Sitting at my desk a "colleague" walks up and says,
Hi, you will know about this kind of thing, can you fix it?
He hands me his watch !
me: ermm it's got no battery in it
him : oh, do you have any batteries?
=========================
user: the printer won't print and it's beeping, it has an error message as well.
me: what does the error say
user: Paper Tray 1 empty Load Tray
me: stunned silence

a sort of customer related issue.
(As I mentioned before I fix computers for a living)
I was sitting at my desk when someone walks up and hands me their mobile phone and says:
"When people call my mobile, it shows an alert but doesn't ring, can you fix it?"
What I was thinking:
Yer sure, I fix COMPUTERS so I obviously have a degree in mobile phones too ! Pass it here and tomorrow bring in your microwave, TV, dishwasher and any other assorted electronic items you have laying around. They all have On buttons so I must be able to fix them too.
What I said:
Looks like you have turned the ringer off; there you are it should ring now.
is it just me who gets this sort of stuff?
No I get it too.... from the dreaded my car wont start (no fuel in tank) to my mower wont start (no fuel in tank, same person next day)
or at work... (cause Im a landrover nut)
The landrover wont start, usual fault finding process. no lights on dash? is the battery charged yes did you check it? yes? how? with the battery toaster, it shows 11.2v , hrmmm
I'll come and have a look... battery not connected on earth terminal
The landrover wont turn over, everything lights up but nothing from the starter, not even a click... why? someone else has the startermotor out for servicing. even has put the tag on the steering wheel that says, DO NOT START, startermotor removed.
Unimog turns over but wont sart. checked hand throttle nothing.... why, Fuel injection pump and lift pump have been removed for servicing/rebuild.
Be afraid ladies and gentlemen be very very afraid, these are, according to the CO the cream of the crop brightest of the brightest, best of the best future of the the ADFs survival through mechanics yada yada yada... Thats bad enough untill you realise....
Every one of these blokes are going to finish this course with CERT 3 in heavy vehicle mechanics/repairs They could be working on your cars in stealerships or more frighteningly, The trucks that come past you every day at 110 on the freeways...
(and the guy with the mower, hes a medic, qualified)
