Hay has anyone seen the OE ?? Landrover snorkel for the D3 ?
Saw one in traffic today -it is different to say the least.
The tube from the air intake up to the bottom of the A pillar is smaller than the rest of the snorkel and looks like there is a gap of about an inch and a half between it and the body. (good place to get sticks wedged in ? ) The top part is quite space age looking.
I know Safari make one for the D3 but this was definitely not a Safari one as shown on thier website ( theirs is quite conventional looking ) - it had the LR logo on it - wish I had time to take a pic.

Here's a pic of one on a D3.
In fact it is a raised air intake rather than a snorkel like the Safari version.
And sticks could get stuck in the gap but so far it hasn't happened to me. The Safari one is no better in this regard.

I've driven through a lot of bush and haven't had any sticks caught in mine! The gap is necessary in order to fully open the bonnet.
That looks like an RRS dave.
Yep that's them ....so technically what is the difference between a Snorkel and a "raised air intake" - or is it just semantics.
I'd say it was an issue of legal definitions. Ie, a snorkel should stop water ingress where as a raised intake wouldn't have to. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure it stops water getting in, but if a claim was made against one for water ingress, it would be a weak case.Originally Posted by waynep

Wayne, a snorkel should theoretically be completely sealed from water ingress, whereas a 'raised air intake' can either a snorkel or it may not be able to handle complete immersion for a period of time.
The D3 is resonance holes in the air intake pipe within the side guard. It is therefore possible that water may enter through these if the vehicle is immersed to this point (ie the water level is up to the top of the guard and not just the 'bow wash').
The safari model replaces the entire intake right to the air box. The LR one does not. So, theoretically, the Safari one has better water sealing.
However, when the water gets that high (and again I'm not talking about splash or a bow wave, but full immersion), there are other factors that come into play:
- Heater intake
- Electricals
- Archimedes Principle
The "base" in Baz's photo is different,,,
