    Bloody sheep

Got up this morning had a shower then as i was shaving looked out the window to see one of the sheep right up the back on his own. For those of you who dont know anything about sheep a sheep on its own means there is something wrong with it. So i headed up the back to have a look, as i got there i realised it was the very valuable Ram. It looked from the house as though he was limping, but as i got closer i saw that on top of his head was a huge open wound. He is pretty tame so i managed to get close enough to have a look and the wound was full of maggots. I managed to get him into the shep yard for a closer look and it looks as though he has been head butting a tree repeatedly, down to the point you can see the thin layer of muscle on his skill, and some of the bone is showing through. I grabbed the trailer, loaded him up and took him in to the vet to get cleaned up, fortunately he hasnt fractured anything, but some of the flaps of skin need to be removed to allow it to heal, and i am going to need to keep and eye on the fly situation until it heals.

Why the hell would you slam you head into something until you had smashed up the skin so badly it revealed part of your skull, they certainly arent the smartest animals on earth. Matt

Sold all mine three and a half years ago. One of the best things I ever did I think. Visited my sister next door this morning - two more bodies on the way there, not sure what the problem was, but the basic problem (apart from the drought) is her son who runs the place since his father's death has had to get a full time job in town.

Well picked him up after lunch and he is fine, just has a pretty messy head. Should be ok, gotta keep him away from the other sheep for a week or two until he recovers fully. $150 later. Matt
