QUOTE: as dog owner l am required to keep my dog under control on my property to stop it being a pest to my neighbours and as far as l am concerned so should responsible cat owners.
Hear hear!
Lightening up a bit (and I'm not cat unfriendly) my neighbour lets out the prize 'kids' moggie at night. Which sits around the neighbourhood and wails.
I was working late in the shed one Sunday night and the door was open, I went inside for a while and came back closed it up.
Two days later I opened the shed and there was a faint wail, a wimpering meow.
No prizes for guessing what had made a home in my boat...
It was damn lucky I even opened up the shed that day.
A few weeks later it had kittens, but thankfully not in the boat (or the shed). And was supposed to have been desexed???? Yeah... right...
Then the neighbour said 'oh it must have been looking for a nesting place'.

I laughed, out loud!
Got one with a Landcruiser in it?

Just a reminder as to why cats are domesticated in the first place - it is BECAUSE they are such good predators. Wherever you store grain you have mice and rats - unless you have a lot of cats or the premises are absolutely vermin proof - which is a lot easier to say than to do. If you don't have cats the only effective solution is poison, lots of it. Which brings in the problems of poisoning native wildlife as well, not to mention next door's dog and the neighbours kids. Of course, you can simply not store grain or grain products, but this has its own problems, especially if you have stock to feed or similar needs.

We are well past the need of protecting grain stores in the village for today's domestic cats, they are purely kept as pets by their owners and
serve in that capacity as companion animals.
The problem is not the cat per se but the owners failing to keep their pets in an appropriate controlled environment and failing to de-sex their pets so unwanted litters dont go feral.
Not to mention the joy of Carpet Snakes in keeping rat populations down![]()

And as far as cats not being de-sexed ... wouldn't be nearly a problem if they were de-sexed in the first place.
I love cats, but i could never eat a full one on my own.
