solmaniac is good!
but, you've missed one small point, what happened to the native title claim and compensation to be be paid by the original vessel owners for damage to beach foreshore etc........
attractivess of vessel to 4wd owners? = more traffic on beach, more people to run over by marauding 4wd owners = harold scruby! uh oh!
LOL

So is any one going to be up there this weekend? 2nd and 3rd December.
It means missing the bbq but oh well.
When are they ment to be removing the wreck? And do you know how exactly they are getting rid of it?
middle to end of jan,, after all the terrorists leave,,,:p
I sat on the beach and watched the bulldozers, operating in the surf, attempting to dig a channel for the Cherry Venture to get back to sea, The tugs trying desperately to drag her out of the grip of the sand and I was there on the day that they finally decided to give up :( and I remember thinking that we can get a man onto the moon, but we cannot get a ship off the beach. I have a whole heap of 'photos somewhere which I will try to find and post.
Interesting thoughts there Rob.
Which asks a few questions: if the guys with the bulldozers had a Saturn 5 rocket to strap onto the Cherry Venture, it would have maybe been on its way.... or are those conspiracy theorists correct? The moon was a site in Nevada.
I remember all the 'Cherry Venture' rescue quite well and wondered why only a few little yellow bulldozers (relatively) were deployed to solve the problem...
a few engineers must've forgotten a few basic rules of physics.....

Have a look at any 4WD left at high tide overnight, and you'll find out why it couldn't be moved.
The wreck got sold under salvage rights years later to the guy who developed South Molle. He was going to "refloat" her - needless to say he did his dough.
At least the Maheno was decked out as a cruise ship - they had the odd wedding aboard her in the early days- as it had a chapel and fully decked out dining room!!:D
