    Were did you find it?

I have been trying to find mine on a series 3 but the comp plate is off a 88" not a 109" , and the front of the chassis has been repainted and had rust cut out of it.

LHR spring rear hanger. The very rear hanger on the outside vertical face on the chassis. Mine needed a little clean off, but it wasn't too bad.

Here are the latest two LRs to find a home in my backyard. Series IIa 109, but not much of it and a Series III with a long chassis stretch.

Carton of Stout for both of them.

The normal procedure was to pull over any 10yo or older vehicles, or newer vehicles obviously damaged or neglected. Some vehicles with minor defects were allowed to proceed with a defect notice that required repair(s) to be made and a Safety Certificate (whole of vehicle, not just the required repairs) to be obtained from a licenced inspection station within a specified time. Vehicles with more serious defects were not permitted to be driven away, had to be moved by towing, a fine and loss of points were incurred, and the defect notice required repairs to be made and the vehicle presented to a Departmental inspection station within a specified time. This latter option, known colloquially as " going over the pits", usually resulted in the vehicle being deregistered as the Dept's inspectors wre not noted for their sympathy.

To take the vehicle off the road there and then, the defect had to be considered to seriously affect the safety - e.g. tyres worn to the belts or non-approved turbo installations or engine conversions.

Once I was in the city for a work Xmas party, at the end of the night (early hours of the morning), a mate decided he was OK to drive and offered to give us all a lift home (he had originally intended to park in the city overnight). As we were leaving the city, there was an RBT which had blocked all 4 lanes of the road and had a line of 10 coppers breath testing people. Now my mates car had had a front end smash (weeks earlier), and one headlight and indicator was smashed, the bumper was taped on and the bonnet didn't open - so he was more woried about a defect notice than the breath test. He blew 0 and the police didn't even say a word about only having one headlight.

It is long, about 5 feet longer than standard. I can't see that I am going to move house anytime soon... Her Laser, my Rangie plus Kingswood ute, Series I shorty, SIIa 109, SIIa 109 (half) and SIII extra long. Too many toys!
