i've got Coopers STT on my 130

Well i'm going to be doing from perth to the east (SA) early in the new year and im looking for the best option on a tyre...it's has the std TD5 General tyre at the moment but was looking for something a bit more off road as well as on road...I've only ever driven with std tyre and Simex 35's so looking for something in between...who's running AT's or MT's what they like with road noise???

You're spoilt for choices. Do a search on Coopers, make your own mind up. Personally I think that while BFGs are good, there are now better tyres. My personal favourite in the 32s are Goodyears. The MTRs performs extremely well. Never had any punctures. Couldn't get them last time, so I went for the armour jobbies. More of an AT, but very quiet, ride well, punctures shouldn't be an issue. Very happy with those in the Simpson earlier this year.

I wouldn't bother with AT's on a Defender, they don;t give you much over a mud tyre on-road but are significantly weaker offroad. Basically three sizes to pick from on stock suspension:
235/85
265/75
255/85
265/75 are the most common when you go outback as most of the Jap mobiles use the same size. They are also the closest thing to standard in terms of the rolling diameter.
With regards to brands I'd only look at the following three, according to my preference:
BF MTR's
Goodyear Wrangler MTR
Cooper STT
I'm running BF MTR's in a 265/75 .. they've got 75k kms on and still good for another 10k.
Parting thought .. AT's are for road cars!or pretend 4WD's

Ok my past experiance.......
BFG Muds in 265/75/16 Wear great. good all round tire.....
i have a mate who has a set on his Navara and he has driven over 70k on them and still RWC.....
i run them on the Fender and very happy.
I used BFG A/T 235/85/16s and they were an excellent all round tyre. Good compromise for highway/gravel cruising and some offroad playing.
Now have BFG M/T in 255/85/16 and will not being using anything else. Bit noiser on-road, but no comparison offroad to the A/T.
Considered the 265/75/16, but cannot really see the benefit over the 235/85 (in fact a smaller diameter than the 235s).
Only downside to 255s is they only come in M/Ts (not a problem for some) and they are rare, even in the city. If travelling remotely, make sure you carry a couple of spares and a kit.......or another Defender with 255s!!!![]()
