    Series 1 Wheels

Maybe one of the more knowledgeable amongst you can help. Leon (our series 1) has a mismatch of wheels and I am going to replace them with proper ones which I have. What colour were 1957 88" wheels painted, and does anyone have a contact? They're black now and I'm sure that's not right.

I always thought that rims came in 2 colours for the series.

    white and green

I think they varied a bit, but from memory at that date the wheels would have been body coloured, probably green, although I think there were several body colours (scratch the paint in a protected spot or take off a cover such as the instrument panel or the LHD blanking plate to look at the original colour).

I don't think single colour wheels regardless of body came until S2a, and I am certain Black was not the original colour - although new wheels supplied as spares may well have been black. All the contemporary pictures I can find of S1s (admittedly mostly B/W) seem to show all SWBs with body coloured wheels although LWBs often seem to have different coloured wheels.

Maybe numpty meant they don't match the S1, not don't match each other. A lot of swbs have been fitted with lwb wheels. But if they were all the same colour, would differences have been noticed anyway? I just got a pink slip with four standard S2a wheels and one S3 (ROH) wheel, for example.

3 Stage 1 rims and 2 Series 2 rims, all painted black. I didn't ask I just took the certificate. I think they should be green too.

Actually, now you mention it, I have - I wasn't thinking. But I still make the point that a look under a cover plate etc would confirm the original colour - both that it has not been repainted, and what colour it was before it faded.
