    better you than me...

do you have everything booked? I assume so... coz if you dont, you will be sleeping in your car on the roadside or in a carpark - which is illegal in the surfcoast shire during the holiday period - and it's enforced seriously!

I slept in the car one night just west of Lorne on the Great Ocean Road in late December(after Christmas before New Years). It was so busy that it was almost impossible to pull off the road to enquire about accomodation let alone get any! We were not the only ones to sleep in cars in that carpark that night either. I had no trouble from any officers....just my Wife

West of Lorne is a fair way past Torquay!

if you tried that between queenscliff, torquay, barwon heads, anglesea area between Christmas and the first week of January you would most likely have woken up with a ticket stuck under the windscreen wiper...

much easier to open a farm gate and park inside (with permission and/or a sixpack of course!)

It's only 37km in a straight line. Not far in Qld terms but then we are talking Victoria

I guess that puts it outside the local sheriff area though.

distance aint that much true, but the density of people drops off dramatically once you pass Lorne... I doubt Mr Plod gets down to Apollo Bay from Geelong!

if you have never driven the great ocean road, you are in for a treat "straight line" distance can probably be tripled in term sof distance driven in parts...

I've driven it and I agree it is windy but I wasn't going to click on all the corners in Oziexplorer to get a true road distance

Maybe they also turned a blind eye at that time because the place was so busy. I mean if there is nowhere to stay and you have nowhere else to go then you don't have much choice. It is something my Wife always brings up about that trip so it must have been a highlight

the tolls in Melbourne are basically tullamarine airport freeway direct to the city.

the henry bolte bridge linking north and south melbourne without having to go through the city

the tunnel linking west melbourne to south eastern suburbs and along the monash freeway to about toorak.

other than those melbourne is toll free

with the airport freeway to avoid toll take the west ring exit and follow till links up with geelong freeway

with the city take kingsway exit and then on to princess highways and then cut across to warrigal road to link up with the Monash freeway to head out to gippsland or head down neapean hwy and link up with frankston mornington freeways.
