for a quicky clutch check, get it in neutral. keep you foot off of the clutch and start it. clutch in and select reverese, horrid grinding noise? your clutch is not dis engaging for whatever reason...

next shut it down, pick 1st or reverse, let the clutch out take the handbrake off and push in the clutch to start. if it jerks on start up its a bad case and needs looking at, if it doesnt it wont take long and it will be a bad case but if you double shuffle you'll extend the life a bit.

    might be dirty or missaligned...

however I would suspect the spigot bearing is starting to drag as lazy mechanics dont always change them.

If with the clutch disengaged (foot on the pedal) you can get reverse by smartly knocking the lever into the reverse gear its more than likely the case.

Chances are the dreaded master cylinder is either leaking or bypassing internally.
Have a sticky under the dash & see if it's dribbling.
