    Good Buy or Not??

    Hi People,

After a bit advise from the wise ones here. I am wanting to get back into Landrover, however messy break up has lefts funds tight. Hence looking for something that is bit cheaper and I can fix up over time.

So I have come across these 2 vehicles.

    Thoughts please
    1st Vehicle
    1994 Disco 300Tdi Auto. 5K, England import
    Needs flywheel and torque convertor.
Heavy duty front and rear bumpers, winch in the front one.6 wolf wheels, 5 with tyres , brand new spare.roof rack. Is on the west cost and will cost around 1k to get it home.

    1998 Disco 300Tdi 4K Manual Aus complaince
Needs new engine, block is buggered. Stock standard, Little untidy, but will clean up. Is outback Victoria, so will need to send engine out there and get it fitted.

    Whats peoples thoughts??
    Cheers

not that I want to drag this into a tech question,,
but why would a car need a new flywheel and T/convertor?

The 300Tdi flex plate has been known to crack but as to why it needs a convertor is anyones guess.

The 2nd car would want to be very cheap if you're having to factor in a replacement engine + transport + labour.

1st Car damaged torque convertor in the process i think.

2nd car is 5k??? But maybe able to get it for 4k??

I think first car maybe the better option being its really easy to get parts to fix.

If I can come up with the dosh thinking bout buying both and maybe making a good car out of both?

I am a diesel guy when it comes to 4wd`s. Love V8 had plenty, but just bit old fashion i guess and prefer the diesel donk in 4wd

6:1 half a dozen of the other,(but only cause I weight heavily against autos)

The auto sounds the better option but be wary of if the TC has gone it can have taken other auto components with it from contamination to shaft damage... you may also have other engine damage that isnt obvious but will make itself known before long (mains/big ends)

a new 300tdi engine rules out the manual by the time you get it all replaced and repaired cost wise...

this is not taking into account logistical costs, at those prices whichever one you can get the parts to and installed the cheapest (assuming that the faults youve listed are the onlyfaults )is going to win the argument for ya.

    Amshaw posts on AULRO regularly.

I'm not suggesting it's a done deal or anything, just that he has posted many questions etc relating to this disco.

Was looking for a motor for it etc.......who knows...maybe pm him and see what the go is??
    Cheers
