actually after working on it Ive given that whole thing up as a bad idea....
most of the guys who work on it, unless they really want to go up and do the burnouts and be part of the recruiting thing and perve on chicks chuck it in after about 6-8 weeks worth...
I had more fun doing recruting work wih an r series, 20t plant trailer and a m113a1, I got to see most of NSW VIC and the ACT doing that stuff, and didnt have to put up with drongo revheads who think that thats all that amry mechs do.....
One day I'll regale the story about a 4x4 show in sydney and the guy whose 100K toymota got put to shame in my work vechile....
6 studs on the rear wheels, has it got L/cruser or patrol diff and axels. The old paint job was far better too.
And the army could spend its recuriting dollars better better.
All i,ve seen of army mechs getting the job done so they can go to the brew room and drink brews.
pootrol axles all the way around...
The word from the recruiting people is that its not as sucessfull at getting in people than as theyd like, sure they get plenty of sign ups but 95+% turn out to be not suitable or suitable but when the actually find out what its all about give it naff that.
They had more sucess with the old chook chaser at the 4x4 type rally events and the camping/outdoors events... (and they're tring to get that up and running and if I finish my course too quick Its going to be given to me as a pet project)
IMHO theyd be better off getting a GMV setup and actually going and showing what we actually do rather than what they want the public to think we do..
Still see nothing has changed since i left the army, still wasting tax payers money doin bodgies ahhh the good old days.....
The guy who was the Brisbane based BMC service engineer for the Army's Champ/Gipsy vehicles way back used to say that Army mechanics couldn't suck boiled lollies without frequent instruction and close supervision. He had formed this opinion from years of being presented with army phuque-ups. Mind you, he also used to say that the average A-Grade mechanic coulddn't change the spark plugs in the Rolls-Royce engined fully water-proofed and radio shielded FFR versions.Quote:

You would have more fun driving oevr it with the new abrams.
Not sure how much this vehicle is original perentie maybe someone can tell me. The cab is Perentie, but that is where it seems to end the wheelbase is to short, on the true perentie there is about 36 inches from where the cab ends to the first of the rear axles. On top of that the pictures I have seen of it appear that it may have front leaf springs but the perentie is front coils. Also to be really picky the engine isn't the 4bd1t isuzu engine but I can understand that change due to the fact that it is running as a drag car. My conclusion, tell me if I am wrong but it is a perentie cab that they have got hold of and bolted onto the chassis from a land cruiser or series 3 landrover and extended the chassis to take a 3rd axle.
You may ask how do I know so much about these cars, I own one (military spec) that I bought and shipped over to england about 8 months ago!
it was a 6x6 perentine.. the chassis was bodged from the cab back and the cab forwards... only about 3 maybe 4 feet is landie chassis.
the panels and front bumper are the only stock things left (and the panels have been modded.
Its not really a landrover.... it just sorta looks like one...
more info when the guys get back from leave and if the system space can be made available I'll upload the promo dvd/cd of it if theres enough interest but thats purely at incsisors call..
