No chance. Unless it was made of Tungsten.

try it, sharpen the spoon edge, use it to score the sheet then snap sharply...

only works on single pane glass tho, not laminated stuff

I've been blowing glass for 13 years. We use either diamond or tungsten for cutting glass. Or glass itself, which will score glass, enough to "snap".

A mild steel "spoon" or what have you is not sufficient for "cutting" glass, neither borosilicate or soda.

Just my experience. No offence intended.

Mick, the fred is very powerful and mystical. It can bring you richers and stuf. My wife is drawn to the fred, only because she can't use a normal can opener BUT even she was uncloging the bath with one.

None taken... Till I saw it i was of the opinion you needed at least hardened steel to make a cut in glass.

we used one over in the solomans to score and cut the sheet glass for some guys hut, takes some persistance but it got done. im not saying it was a pretty cut (whe clamped the glass on the arm of the outrigger with 2 big g clamps and a spreader bar) we left behind a fairly rough edge and there was little "splinters" of glass coming off when we were "cutting". While he worked the "cutter" I had to lean on the waste edge of the pane.

I was suspect of it working but the dogger at the time swore blind it would work as he used to do it with a screwdriver when he was a glazier and couldnt find his cutter..

If i saw the end result of it on a piece of glass in my house (not that I would the rough edge would be masked by the seals) Id want new glass...

Just out of curoisity, (off topic on my own thread in less than 5 posts thats gotta be a record) how the hell do you get the nicely beveled edges onto glass?

    Diamond wheel.

I'm not a glazier, and I've never been to pilkingtons I dont work with flat (sheet) glass.

In the scientific industry we use either diamond wheels or a flat steel wheel with carborundom paste as an abrasive. The latter being the lesser of the two.

Also a "cutting" machine or "wet" saw is used or cutting tubing on angles etc. Diamond wheel of course. Think of a rip saw.....set in a frame....with a diamond wheel and coolant.

    Check out http://www.bartelt.com.au/products/

if you're inteested in what we make......scientifically that is.
    Cheers
