    What next?

Wife rings me up and says "How was the car running this morning? There's a trail of something oily down the driveway".

Went outside and sure enough there's a trail of something oily leading to my parking spot, with a puddle under the back end.

It's diesel. When I turn the ignition on diesel pours out of the top of the tank.

Something has obviously come adrift from/broken off the pump (which I recently had replaced). Can't get our hands in there to see what's going on.

When (if) I get home I'm getting the grinder out to do this:

    Unhappy

Most probably a crack in the hose mate. As you probably won't have much fuel in the tank anyway now, drop her a bit and check, close to the spiggot from the tank.
Had a similar problem on my old F100, dual fuel, would not behave starting on petrol. Chased the problem to a cracked fuel supply hose, at the tank.
If you have an internal pump in your tank (it seems so?) that will be the culprit. Cracked fuel supply hose, most probably right at the spiggot, near the clamps. Worst case is the spiggot itself needs resoldering.

Best of luck, not a difficult job, just a mongrel position to work in.

Angle grinder eh? I like a nice big cold chisel and a big hammer myself. Very satisfying sometimes!

    Shorty.

Trouble is I have a long range tank and it's a bugger to shift. When the pump was replaced it took them ages to re-fit the tank, couldn't get at the conections. Which is probably why it's stuffed up.

If you had the pump replaced recently 'by others' - then surely you would want to take it back to them to fix it.

Or am I being a little naive.

Trouble is I can't afford to have it off the road, and the last time took a few days to get the tank out and in again.

    It's fixed!

Cut a hole in the floor - one of the little plastic push in connectors had come loose. Used a quarter of a (140L) tank to get home.

People behind me must have been cursing.

    Hey Andrew,

I don't know what it is that I have done, but it must be pretty bad.

Could have been worse I suppose, if the trip on the weekend had gone ahead it probably would have happened out the back blocks of Harvey.
