My Motorbike riding days are over!

On the way to work this morning, had a car pull out of a side street in front of me, and I "T-boned him right behind the drivers door. Hit him doing approx. 50k's My bike is a write off, his car was un-drivable, and I stepped off without a scratch. Gave me a bit of a wake up call to say the least. While the fire truck was there, a member of the LROCV club stopped to see If I needed any help, or a ride to work. Thanks Andrew if you read this! Oh well I needed an excuse to drive the Defender to work anyway.
Good bye to a great BMW.

Glad to hear you're in one piece!

I ride around more than I drive at the moment, and I watch everyone like a hawk. I feel MUCH safer on the k100rs I bought a few months back than I did on the trailie. Far more presence on the road.

Once again, glad you are OK.

    Glad you Ok aswell Ken

I had a ZX6 few years ago and same thing happened to me.. wrote bike and car off (brand new forester) from hitting it head on at 80kph and I flew over the top of the car..didn't break a bone!
Gave the road bikes up after that..still miss them as had been riding bikes since I was 8 years old.
Have a KTM dirt bike now..no cars to worry about hitting!

What sad thing But at least your ok

i still ride and will do to the day i die , if we all worry about getting hurt in one way or another you would,nt walk out your front door

when i was 17 , my self and my mates all got bike learners , out of all them im the only one that has not had a accident with a car i have fallen off but that was my fault

i put this down to a father son talk when i was learning to ride & drive dad said treat everyone else out there on the road as if they are idiots and they are out to get you

    and i live by this

its worked for me on a bike and a car ive nether come together with another car when riding or driving

now i can say dont let this stop you living your dream but ive never been there so i cant comment

id like to say it would,nt stop me , i just hope it never happens to me so i dont have to make that choice

Glad to hear you walked away. 50k doesn't sound fast but it's a fast stop. Don't give it away yet though. You'll be up & kicking in no time.

I've had enough close calls, no matter how well you read what's happening, you just cannot be watching absolutely everything at once.
Like Rangieman, had a talk from Dad when I was 16. Basically pleaded me to give it a couple years in a tin top before venturing out on bike. Only time I've seen him with dread in his eyes for me, so I humoured him and didn't get a road going bike til I was into my 20s. Wise old man that one, looking back I don't think I'd be here in one piece, and knock on wood to date I've never seriously bent a car or bike or myself.
And I give that same spiel to every young fella I talk to now

    Motorbike riding days over

I guess I'll have to ammend my thread. My motorbike riding days on the road are over. This does not include dirt bikes. This is the first accident I have had in 25 years of riding. I have always considered that everyone either does not see me, or wants to kill me. I have worked in enough hospitals around the world, to know what a car can do to a motorbike rider. In this case, I didn't see him in enough time to stop. He was on the back of a rise, and followed an other car out into the road, I was reacting to the first car, when he pulled out also. If I was single, this would not have even bothered me, but If I don't work I don't get paid. I now have a wife and son, and they are more important to me than the joy of riding.

Good to see you bounced well. It certainly shakes you up. I work for Aus Post & have been hit by a number of cars, come off a fair bit & broken various bones (inc. trail bike riding). The road never gets any softer. Good point about the job, wife & kid too.
