Have had heaps of stacks on dirt bikes, none on road, but have had a lot of near misses on road bikes all through other vehicle inattention or just plain arrogance. many times have had cars pull out around intersections, cut me off or overtake another vehicle not giving way to oncoming traffic (me). Have ridden with bike lights on for most of that time, well before it was common. Drivers always say "Did not see you". It amazes me how they can not see a bright red bike with headlight on and now sun / glare issues.
Hope all goes well for recovery.
I don't know how true it is but my brother was saying that people only look for cars not bikes, trucks or busses.

Don't ride any more. After falling off a few years ago, I finally realised you don't heal as well at sixty as you did at twenty. Wet roads and aged tyres on a restored bike that gets little use.

    Good on ya mate !
A good mate of mine has (2) Guzzis, (1) Cagiva, and (1) MV Agusta Evo3. He also has between 10 & 15 (depends how you count wrecks and parts bikes) Hondas of various models. He also has a very original V8 Holden one tonner, and an '83 Gemini with a 4 cam 16 valve x 2 litre Nissan with 5 speed. The MV Agusta is a ROCKETSHIP, and really not suited for road use outside the NT before speed limits and German autobahns. Power band between 8000 & 13000, more brakes than my late model Falcon ute.

    George,
That is pretty much right according to studies done in the US. More so for the motor bikes, people just do not interperet seeing them. This is no way an excuse because kids and push bikes come into the same category.
It amazes me how people fail to see a Truck.
There are some reasons and we have probablly all failed to see another vehicle for a split second because of blind spots (all vehicles have them).
The prevelance of drugs also has a lot to do with it. A high proportion of accidents relate to drug use or traces of drugs in the system (quite often not enough to charge), fatigue and just inattention. I think we should be concentrating on these issues rather than targetting people doing 5kph over the speed limit.

Coming from a racing background, i think consentration or lack of is the major contributer, most people are to worried about where their going or talking or doing their hair, reading the paper to really consentrate on the job at hand "driving the bloody car"

I have been abused by the missus for ignoring her while i'm driving, but i don't care, when i'm driving, i consentrate on driving and the traffic around me

    G'day Folks

Arrogance has a LOT to do with it too I,ME,MINE don't care, don't wanna care

ALL drivers seen wearing earphones or bluetooth earpieces should have them confiscated in previous years hearing impared drivers used to have to display a sign "Caution DEAF Driver"

On one of yesterdays morning TV shows they TRIED to interview a driver at an intersection, and he said on camera "Can't Hear You, Iam Listening to Music" he had a set of headphones on

    cheers

    Motorbike Riding days are over

It is funny about all this "Mine, Me, I, Ect." The guy I hit followed an other car out onto the road. I'm sure the car in front at least heard, if not saw the accident, but disappeared over the horizon. I can't believe people fail to stop at an accident because they don't want to get involved.

    The world we live in.

While I would never support, condone or excuse that type of behaviour (door opening) I am of the opinion the motorcyclists should NEVER travel inbetween two rows of cars in traffic, whether the cars are stationary or not.

It's amazing you survived, and without injury, congratulations! Pity about the bike tho'.

This type of crash seems all too common with m/cycles, sadly. Took out a guy I knew from school when we were about 18.

I wiped a VW wagon when I was about 30, the right knee has never been the same. Amazing people just dont see bikes.

I don't ride on road anymore either.

I had a job in the mid eighties where my 'company car' was a Yamaha XJ750 shafty, nice bike.

    Cheers, GQ

Once I was hit from behind whilst atopped in the traffic in the middle of Perth.

A brand new SAAB owner found out that his crumple zones worked well.

He claimed he didn't see me.

The reason he didn't see me was because my bike wasn't on the adjacent footpath, wasn't about 17 years old, and wasn't wearing a boob tube and an extremely short skirt!
