I don't remember singing "ashes to ashes" in ring around the rosie.

The complete poem, I believe is:

    Fleas.

The other story about "Bless you" is that people believed that because of the violence of the sneeze, the soul briefly left the body and it was necessary to protect the person from Satan during that brief time by saying "Bless you".

I'm sure we could find a couple of other dodgy "facts" in the list if we had time.

I'm fairly sure a couple of them sound dodgy too!

The ring of roses was the red rash that was one of the symptoms of the plague. The "tishoo" described the sneezing that was another symptom. The posies were the herbs that people used to try to ward off the plague. Falling down dead was the last symptom.

Never heard of "ashes to ashes" either.

A lot of nursery rhymes had much deeper significance than we realised as children. Some of them were quite savage political satire.

I think "ashes to ashes" maybe a different version instead of "a tissue, a tissue"
