How much Disco II or Defender do you get for $20k

Would $20k get you a tidy properly maintained TD5 Disco without too many kms? Asking on behalf of a mate who has just got married and they only have a Honda CRV between them. The guy says it just has to go.

Both admire the Defendert and do like them but I think in reality the Disco is a better option. More of them and you're more likey to get value for money. Or am I wrong?

thansk in advance for any comments.

    different people buy different cars,,
if they want THE ICON, buy a (cheap) defender,,
If they are gunna run it around town all week with occasional trip, then the Disco makes more sense,
The difference off road is a gnats hair anyway----

Thanks for those responses. Incisor your "hmmm" is a bit of a worry. I really don't think they want a car rated "hmmm".

How much do you think he should scrape together to find a good Disco 2. Would an extra 5k to make it $25k help change the field.

Maybe I should get off my butt and look at redbook.com and see what an 02/03 is fetching...

There is hope! I was 'johnny on the spot' and picked up a MY00 Td5 Auto White D2 5 Seater with 160K on the dial from a private sale for $18K. It was from a deceased estate and the poor old dear needed 18K to break even on the loan. It was posted online at 2245hrs Friday night & I had a deposit on it by 0900hrs Saturday morning.

I had it tested and RWC at Ritter Automotive and apart from a fuel pressure regulator & rear discs and pads, they said it was a very neat truck. Every service on time at Stewart Websters (Frankston) & Lance Dixon (Ferntree Gully.)

I know I was lucky as this one was number 27 on the list of Discos looked at but 20K, I think, is quite possible, just be patient. BTW - I only had to look for 3.5 weeks.

    Hi James
    Mine was $14990. A great buy,but came with 198000ks,now around 215000ks.
Main issue was the head gasket and oil in the harness.Chances are you will get both in a 15,20 or 25K Disco or Defender.
Have they driven your Defender???? Get them to have a good drive of that,I think they will find the Disco more pratical as a daily driver, and it will be ALMOST as good as the Defender off road.
Added benefits of the Disco2 Climate control,Cruise control(both standard) auto if you wish, and ACE(Active conering enhancement) probably the best option to find if you can.
We missed you saturday!!!!plenty of bum grabs the seat stuff in Harvey!!!!!
