    New computer

I now have a stable computer up and running. Down side is everything on the other is lost! crashed as the replacement one fired up.

It's still old technology but the price was right $0

Old technology is perfectly OK for this application. By the way, I am in Yass until Monday.

George, you might still be able to save data on the drive from the old machine.
Take the hard disk from the old machine, place it in the new one, jumpered as a slave unit, behind the drive being used, or on the other IDE port on the mother board, and fire the machine up. there is a chance you might be able to read and save your data.
I have had hard drives give up, and refuse to boot as a master unit, but still function Okay, as a slave. Give it a go, you may just save all your work yet.

    Shorty.

Yea I have done that also. This drive has been failing for 0ver a year now. Got to the stage where I was rebuilding the machine each weekend!

No just your typical Geeks machine! All buggered.
Same way you can tell if a blokes a builder! Their house is usually in need of a rebuild.
