And, Still for some reason people flock to the toyo brand? And when they finally put coils on the rear of the 70 series cruiser, its will be like they re invented the wheel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, what are Toyo doing when their brand spanking new TDV8 is only putting out 151Kw and 430Nm?
Compare this with the Landy TDV8 which has a smaller capacity and is putting out 200Kw and 650Nm!!!![]()
A remapped TD5 is putting out the same figures as the Toyo

I suspect that the work horse versions have lower power than the new 200 series will have. Seems like a stupid question to me as what the hell are landrover doing only fitting a 2.4 litre engine to the new defender. I know which one will sell better.
I know this is a Landrover site and have owned Rangies for more than 20 years but Toyota certainly know what they are doing with marketing. How many times have Landrover been sold etc in the last few years, there was the tie with Honda, then BMW now Ford and Ford is going broke. Cant see Toyota having any financial problems so they probably know what they are doing and what the market wants. Cant see why we need to criticise other makes just because we decide to drive Rovers.
Ian
Toyota are the richest car maker in the world. I know a few years ago I read that they could buy honda outright from their cash reserves and still have changeLike it or not... they are financially very effective.
All this talk about motors and size is I think missing the real issue. Even though the fender only has a 2.4 let's not forget that it will probably be 600kg lighter than the troopie and is currently some 800kg lighter than a sahara.![]()

Also, let's not forget that the japs quote horsepower in a japanese standard which overstates the power by nearly 20% compared to DIN which I think Landrover and most euros use. So, they have ponies compared to LR clydesdales.
I remember getting our 3l v6 camry dyno-ed (long story) on a 20 degree day it produced 140 HP. On the same dyno on a 35 degree day my relatively stock 35 year old 1.6l elan produced 126hp. The elan was rated at the factory at 126hp and the toyota was close to 200hp. Someone is lying about their outputs!![]()

They have a factor that they put in and those figures were including that factor. Having said that the total outputs are not really what is important here. What is important is that a brand new 3.0l 24valve V6 toyota only gave 14 more horsepower on a 15 degree colder day than a 25yo 1.6l stock four did with only 8 valves and carbies ... LOL
My point is that toyota horsepower are substantially smaller than euro horsepower![]()
True, I did note that and agree but I missed commenting on it.[/quote]
I had my 1995 Honda CBR1000F dynoed a couple of years back and it gave as much power out as it was rated for. See http://members.optusnet.com.au/thebe...ikes/bikes.htm

Yes I mostly agree, read in I think 4wd monthly the new 70 series in all spec's will be avaliable as a option, lockers. The 200 LC later this year will have twin turbos 200kw. Yes they will more than likely sell even more of them now.
But I still will always drive a Landie![]()
Ian, I was not criticising, I just want to know why the things is not putting out more power/torque than the smaller Landy engine.
I think I started off my saying 'In all seriousness..'
Cannot agree more in terms of the madness of the 2.4ltr in the Defender and LRA's marketing efforts.
