Considering Next G and CDMA use the same transmitters and the same frequencies I am slightly surprised that the coverage is different - but it does give faith that the maps reflect actual tests! According to my information, both are spread spectrum systems and they simply switched some of the transmitters at each tower from CDMA to Next G, with the proportion of transmitters on each system varied as the proportion of users changes to Next G.
