    Thanks - I just looked in the owners manual I have (1981) and it is not there - but sounds like my guess was pretty good! I am not very experienced on S3s though. I note it is not shown in the S3 parts manual I have, which only shows the combined wash/wipe switch. Could it have been fitted to a large number of Australian assembled ones that came ckd without washers?

    I have a sender unit out of a Series 3 like yours. It is in pretty good condition. It does not work with the 2A gauge so it is not a lot of use to me.

    I'll confirm that JD, my 81 has a combined switch/push button

    My army 81 (off the same line as the civy ones) has a seperate push button for the washers
