Does not work with defenders, no care ..

Was talking to the rep at the GC camping and 4x4 show.

She said the next model due out soon will suit the defenders

Still like my warn winch though

Looks to me like an even easier way to break Toyota wheel studs.

Reminds me of something funny I saw on an African documentary:

Picture a big old (10 ton?) tray back truck with a dead battery.

The rear axle was jacked up so the left wheels were off the deck.

A very long rope was wound in between the two rear wheels on the lifted, left side.

About 30 locals ran away from the truck, pulling the rope.

And successfully rope started the truck, very clever.

(dont try this with a 4wd

)

Damn thing looks bloody dangerous to me. If for some reason the vehicle slues sideways the rope has a very real chance of unrolling off of the drum with all sorts of potential damage ensuing. A winch has the rope or cable going onto an enclosed drum, making it safe, I personally would never use something like that.

i supose looking at that picture you would be ok as long as you have two trees directly in front of you

doesn't look safe or practical to me by the time you have put that setup on you could probably of all ready pulled your self half way out with a hand winch..........hand winch would also take up less room in the back of the car assuming those wheel things dont stay on all the time as i would imagine they would get knocked and damaged when off roading

And the other thing... as Wazza mentioned above we were looking at them at the show... and they wanted $850 show special for it!!!

FFS why not go electric at that price

The manufacturer of the bush winch gave a demonstration on the beach for the west coast 4x4 club the otehr month in WA, see my pics of the demo posted earlier thread.

The system is designed to break at stress levels on the rope and then the bolts heads

Pricing was $1600 which compared to electric winch is expensive for what the system really is

System appeared to be fiddly in that you had to watch the tension on the ropes as they wound themselves onto the drum and fitting the drum onto the retaining bolts, the woman who is the owner of the company had about 7 go's to fit the drum to the wheel in the sand on ther ear wheels of the tojo and when it was used it fell off and the male demonstrator had to re-fit it.
