where to source windscreen for series

    Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could suggest a good place where to source a windscreen for a Series 3?

The place where I usually buy from has this ones for $132, but I heard that they should for about $50.

    Thanks,
    Dante

I assume you are just talking about the glass - available from any windscreen supplier, although few will have them in stock. Since glass is very expensive to ship round the country (when I was looking for a rear widow for the 110 freight quotes equalled or exceeded the glass cost - and I eventually found a NEW glass at the local wrecker), it would help if you filled in your location, and people local to you could give some ideas. Because of the costs of moving glass round I doubt you will find any a lot cheaper than the figure you quote, but have you tried places that specialise in replacement glass for tractor and machinery cabs?

But your cheapest source would be second hand - should be available from anyone who wrecks Landrovers. Many are in good condition because the vehicle does not move fast enough for much pitting to develop. Same glass from 1958 to 1983, start Series 2 to end Series 3.

I'm pretty sure we got one from British Off Road at Forest Glen. Numpty will remember...I'll get him confirm later, but I'm sure it was where we got it from.
I will call them later today.

Problem is that they are more expensive than my source (usually). For example ... they charged me $50 + $20 postage for a fuel filler hose, where the exactly same (new) hose was from my source $27.50 (excl postage). Hugh difference.
Will try anyway. No harm in shopping around.

    Thanks,
    Dante

There's a Landy wrecker in Newcastle NSW that sells new or second hand windscreen glass at half the price (delivered) of the usual windscreen mobs, cant think of their name, but have seen it mentioned on this forum plenty, does someone know who I'm talking about, Regards Frank.

Series windscreens are just flat Triplex. Any glazier will cut one for you. You just need one for a template.

Yes - but they have to be branded - and not all glaziers can do this!

Any Glazier worth their salt should be able to cut a laminated one for you.
We always have the Narrogin bloke in at work custom cutting windscreens for machinery.

In this state at least the glass on a registered vehicle must be branded. Not all glaziers can do this for cut glass, even if it does meet the requirements.

If they picked that it wasnt branded as I expect 99% in NSW wont be then I would be surprised.

We used to cut windscreens for Defenders as well as series landrovers at Lowline, we probably shouldnt have but it was windscreen laminated glass and never had any complaints.

Come to think about it we built a sliding windscreen for a contract shooter that was from NSW and we cut those screens.

If anyone asks, just tell them thats how they came from Landrover and they cost you an enormous amount of money blah blah blah and they will pass.

Just make sure that it is laminated.
