The Land Rover 6 cylinder!! I've got one of those...
Looks pretty good though. Salisbury rear diff?
A Chara folks,
Here's the rundown and pics of one of the new additions - the Ute.
Got both for $400![]()

Will post the LWB in the REMLR section.
73 Series 3 Ute - this will be got back running and reasonable stage and given to the old man for a farm ute on the property. Later, if time and inclination permit it will be brought up to rego/restoration condition.
78 Series 3 FFR GS - the plan is - to bring it back to somewhere near original. Definitely soft top, maybe just GS without all the radio gear (for now). Basically want it as a restorer/occassional 2nd vehicle and something to ride with the old man in on Anzac Days etc., (he is a Malaya and Vietnam veteran), because the march is a bit much for him sometimes these days.
It won't be this Anzac day though![]()
OK here's the ute.
Here she is looking glorious, pine needles were a free inclusion
Side view - no door tops at all
Tray view - missing back and side flaps, but comes with more pine needles, and a pair rusted leaf springs from about 1945![]()
The cab - nice and tidyRust hole in drivers firewall, seats & seat boxes in good order actually, floor nil rust
As you can see, a bit of tidying up and some dreaded electrical work necessary
The engine...it looks reasonable, and was 'apparently' running a few months go. Time will tell what is needed here.
Overalll, it appears not too bad. There is some rust in the chassis, usual spots- cross members, etc., the springs are cactus and the brakes are non existent. Priority is confirm status of the mechanicals, get it running and get some brakes happening! The property it's going to, is hills galore. Then tidy up the interior so you can sit in it!!!

I wonder what the big red V on the bonnet was for,,
looks nice and straight![]()

The six does not have the best reputation, and can be hard to get parts for, but I think it is a good albeit thirsty engine when running properly. Apart from that you should have no problems getting parts. It will all depend on how "run into the ground" it has been. But the pair for $400 is pretty good - probably cost you nearly as much to get them home!
All the best with restoration,
John

I assume these are the same motors as the 2.6l leyland motor in the P76. If so, we have a few and a parts to go with em. One thought was to drop a 4.4 in it (we have a few of these too) - but I don't want to be completely stupid - just yet![]()
The red v intrigued me too, but no idea what it was.
Transport - I have a mate with a flatbed and huge winch. Hopefully I can convince/bribe him to give me a hand and throw a trailer on the back of it as well. Would make it much easier (and cheaper)![]()
Good on ya Fen!
I'm glad I found 'em for you and am so pleased they're going to get a new lease of life - it was sad to see such fine pieces of British craftsmanship rotting away in a paddock. And I really am pleased they're going to a new home, they're were getting very tempting. When I saw the trayback there last week, I kinda thought that it wouldn't be too hard to cobble up a decent one from the two...
Good on ya! I'll give you a hand when you're ready to load 'em.

The motor in the P76 is basically the same engine that is in the Austin Kimberly and the 6 cylinder Morris Marina - a OHC engine from the 70s - it is not related at all to the Landy 6 cylinder which I think is derived from an old Rover car six cylinder from the fifties.
