They have a problem down there at the moment,Lead carbonate thats exported thru the port is responsible for about 4000 bird deaths.Dust from the ore is being blamed,it seems there has been some gone into the ocean as well.

The Port's been very naughty and has been shipping lead carbonate in non-sealed concentrate form, when thier licence only allows pelletised.

The lead levels in some water tanks (and nearly everybody drinks rainwater here because the scheme water is so bad - 760ppm disolved solids) have greatly exceeded WHO safe levels.

It seems the water at the port is 100times safe levels.

Heads are starting to roll!

Our nickel will be going out in sealed containers, no conveyor loading.
Still wont please some locals, but hey it is a port.

Still its a shame and it won't help the mining cause.
The pollution will probably give the tourism at the town a bit of buggery for a while. Still people will forget in time and the town will continue to grow.
I remember when the super phosphate works at Albany was poring murcury contaminated waste into Princess Royal Harbour. The word then was that you could'nt take fish from the area for around 90 years. No one seems to talk about it much now.
The superworks certainly cleaned up their act after that.
