Anyone have an idea of the cost of shipping a dead car from Perth to Sydney - the cheaper the better - speed is not important.

Try Adelaide Car Express, Auto trans, Australian Car Transport etc.
We had the rangie shipped to Adelaide about 2 years ago for $500 and they also went to Sydney. I think it may have been Adelaide Car Express. Also look for backloading companies. Being a non goer many will not take it though.

just got a car shipped to perth from melb. on auto trans
cost about $1280. give you some idea

Further to what jbell110 said. When we were arranging to freight the Rangie our initial quote was over $1000 but after a bit of shopping around we got it for less than $500, but this was to Adelaide.

shop around, it is usually cheaper Perth to the east as you can often get it on as back freight. Still expect around the 1k mark though

We trucked the Rangie to Perth & back to Melb. for a holiday about 4 years ago. It was about $800 Melb-Perth and $600 return. Perth based companies gave a better price. Train is more expensive than truck. Height is an issue for some companies that use combined train/truck services. I can't remember the name of the company we used, but I'm pretty sure there are only to main players in the interstate car transport business now - thanks to some takeovers.

The good news is that West-East is cheaper than East-West.

It might be cheaper to get it going & drive it across.

i recently paid $700 approx to get a vehicle from darwin so it can be done cheaper if you hunt around.

I would assume if you arent in a rush you will get it done cheaper, because if a truck has to leave it will leave full or not, if there are going to be empty spaces i would imagine they would discount the spot, similar to how planes sell last minute empty seats because filling them at half price is better than not filling them. Having moved a few cars around the country, the price does vary quite a bit - but all i've dealt with have made a point of the vehicle being 'running'.

However, there are some 'custom' carriers about - the blokes who move large water tanks one way - and come home empty - might find a tank carrier who'll do it - just a thought...

This might sound a bit left of field but, given it doesnt run, whack it in a 20ft container, which also doesnt run, and ship it - just another thought.....

ask one of those stevedore companies who operate ro-ro ships, maybe they could drag it on board and stash it, until it gets to a port near you - just another, another thought....

...or just go and get it and have a (long) holiday at the same time
