Hobart to Townsville

G'day All

I want to pick your collective brains!

Shortly I'm going to be driving from Hobart to Townsville in order to relocate for work.

I'll be driving the fender and towing the camper so it won't be a quick trip by any means. I'd like to travel through Goulburn and then the Gold Coast enroute as we have family in both spots.

I've worked out its about 4000k and have driven various sections of the road over the last 25 years. I'll see if Inc will give me his contacts so if I get in the poo I can ask one of you good people for assistance if need be. I'm not expecting any issues but you never know.

My questions are fairly simple;

How long will it take if I only overnight in Goulburn and GC and cover between 5 - 600k per day?
Any tips, things to be wary of, roads to stay away from etc etc etc
Where can I do a filter n oil change enroute
Any other general advice you have.

Don,t speed around Goulburn.

Filter and oil change without using a mechanic would need to be done at a quiet rest stop or members place. A lot would not like you doing these things but if no mess then no problems, just pretend you have broken down.

Melbourn to Goulburn can be done in a day.

make sureyou drop in for a beer, i don't have the views anywhere near what you have

i have a front yard if you need to service the rig although i normally use a service pit

if you change you oil and filter before you leave home......you shouldnt need to stuff around on the trip........

otherwise.....if you drop in....i can change it for you......im in sydney.......

I was going to offer but then realised that Goulburn is only an hour away and if your staying there then you probably wouldn't wast time stopping here.

if you follow the Bruce Hiway, the Goldy to Townsville will take around 15 hours.

Why not just do a oil / filter change before ya leave ... doing it midtrip seems rather dumb to me ..

I drove from Syd to Dampier and back and did it when I returned 3 weeks later, td5 loved the long drives...

Stevo_62: You can set up the camper here and change the oil, my driveway is testament to many oil changes

I'm near Byron Bay, just off the Bruxner Hwy, halfway between Lismore and Ballina.
