    Holidaying in NSW ??

    Greetings,

My family and I are filling the S2 Disco TD5 and heading to Pacific Palms NSW in a couple of weeks and I am interested to hear of suggestions of good 4WDtracks along the way or top sights not to miss. We are travelling from Adelaide to Broken Hill day 1, Broken Hill to Coonabarabran day 2, onto Scone day 3, then onto Pacific Palms on day 4 and staying there from Friday 24th - Friday 27th April.
I do like a challenge but as we will be travelling solo so I dont want to do anything too risky, sightseeing is the main objective for family and 4WDriving is the bonus for me.
I have heard that Stockton Beach is good and would be interested to hear from anyone that we could possibly hook up with for a day trip to play in the sand.
I have been 4WDriving in the Flinders Ranges a number of times as well as been down to the Coorong South East SA but I would not call myself an expert. The Disco is pretty standard with Cooper ATR's, actuated CDL and UHF radio but does well.
    I look forward to suggestions/recommendations.

    Cheers
    DaveF

2001 Disco S2 TD5 manual, Cooper ATR's, actuated CDL, and a big wish list with a small bank account.

There are alot places to go offroad around the Stockton area and the beach is one, also the Watagans has heaps of tracks ranging from easy to extreme, Bulladelah is pretty much the same, then there's The Barringtons and Chichester.

Of course this will depend on how far your willing to drive from Pacific Palms, and of course some of these tracks shouldn't be attempted alone.

One problem will be if you want someone to show you is that your here during the week and not on a weekend.

So grab yourself a couple of maps, State Forest ones if you can of Bulladelah, Barrington Tops, and Newcastle as well as topo maps of The Watagans and Buladelah.

    Baz.

    Thanks Baz,

We arrive in Pacific Palms on Friday and leave the following Friday. Dont mind travelling a bit, day trips are preferred. Any specifics in the state forrests or just get the maps and have a bit of look?

    Cheers

Well Buladelah and Chichester State Forest and The Barringtons Tops NP have a bit of history so there are interesting thing to see like old forestry huts and machiney as well as falls and rivers as well to see, Stockton has the wreck of the Maheno and tank traps from WWII, you will need permits for Stockton.

I might be able to show you some interesting places on either the Sat or Sun (21 or 22).

If you are interested, drop me a pm and I will get you my contact details. If these days are unsuitable, I may be able to give you some directions.

BTW Baz, it is the Sygna wreck on Stockton beach, Maheno is a bit further north.

    G'day DaveF,

If you want to visit a beach or two check these out.

from Pacific Palms head to Foster. First round about( just past high school) turn right and follow road to look out. Just as you reach top of incline before the look out parking there is a track on left hand side. This is only short (3-4 k) but a bit of fun and it will take you to a secluded beach. We have been ther in summer to be the only people there due to the access.

Next is a beach south of Haliday point. Head from Foster to Taree. You will see turn off about 10-15k out of Tuncurry to right. For this one I think you need local council pass.

Information centre in Foster has all maps on the area.

    It is a great area.

My wife and I got married in the Green Cathedral Pacific Palms.
Pacific Palms has great beach for the kids (Elizabeth Beach). Also good fishing for me.
Good coffee shop at blueys beach shops. Does good breaky and coffee.

    Hope this helps
    Dave

    Thanks Dave,

Sounds great, it is always good to know where to get good coffee, and info on out of the way places.

    Thanks all for your suggestions.

    Cheers
