If they where good enough for your other vehicle dont change em
Guys, Ive got a dilemna, not sure which ones to get for the disco.
Has anyone owned both sets and can do a first hand comparison?
Ive had the bfg's on my last cars, not sure whether to try something different.
Cheers

The BFG MT & MTRs are excellent tyres both on & off road. The MTRs are probably slightly better on-road... The thing that would sway my decision is the speed rating of the tyre (MTRs are a Q rating - 93MPH) and how much use they would have on the black stuff.

I've had both types and currently I am running 255/85R16 BFG muddies.
For rocks and most dry stuff , ther MT/R's are better andf are popular choice up here in QLD as they're well suited to the terain. Mud, sludge, etc.. the BFG's are a better option. The MT/R's have thicker sidewalls than the BF's and have had one puncture with the BF's not long after I bought them (sidewall tear, $300 in the bloody bin![]()

The MT/R's I had on my last Rangie for 2 years and nicked the sidewall once but never needed to replace the tyre (was repaired).
Both are good, MT/R's IMO are stronger though (and more expensive).

I can get them both for roughly the same price so thats not a worry, I will probably be doing more mud stuff, considering Im up at Toolangi, And I didnt find the bfg's too bad on the road. Will have to think about it,
or toss a coin!![]()
I have had both on my disco, tore 2 side walls on the BFG MTs, the MTR seem alot more solid. MTRs are alot better on road but not as good on the beach, I need to run lower pressures to get the tyre to bag out well because of the stiffer sidewalls.
MTR's for sure.
I've owned MTR's and borrowed sets of BFG's.
After being on countless trips where BFG's have had punctures/been staked etc I would never buy them.
MTR's have thicker sidewalls as mentioned.
I think they will wear slightly quicker but they will be worth it??
Just to throw a spanner in the works, have you looked at the new Mickey Thompson range or ProComps??
I would buy either of these over both MTR's or BFG's
Similar pricing too.
Dave.
Plus the MT/Rs have sex apeal!
