Easter Trip
Drove to Yass last Wednesday with trailer load of camping gear. Left Friday 0500 together with son in his Commodore for River Valley near Echuca. Trip was completely uneventful. First time we have camped for a number of years, and we had bought a new tent - and not put it up beforehand (I know!). The instructions were rather vague and general, but we did manage to get it up eventually, and looking pretty much like the one in the pictures! With only a few bits left over.
Only sort of surprise was when I took the trailer spare out of the trailer when unloading at the campsite. It was dead flat. this after being repaired just before the trip! However, since the tyres on the trailer gave no problem, there was no drama. I came straight home today with a 6 yo passenger.
Traffic was not too bad on Friday, and quite light today except for the section of the Newell from Tocumwal to Finley for some reason. But still slowed quite a bit by a number of wide loads, plus numerous grey nomads heading north for the winter. Most of the Newell is only one lane each way, and with the available acceleration on the 110 with a trailer at 100-110kph, you need a good break in the traffic coming the other way. Noted that a couple of the right angle intersections on the Newell have been rounded for Newell traffic since I was on it last, for example at Ardlethan. Surface is better than last time I was on it as well (Christmas), albeit still pretty rough in spots.
