Thread: Bio deisel.

You noticed that too, I don't know if its got bio in it or not, but last week when I got a jerry can load for the tractor i noticed it was a real yellow colour when I poured it in, and yes it was caltex fuel. Any of the fuel experts know why? Or is it the new low sulphur fuel.

Caltex are now stocking a new generation of diesel called "Next Generation Diesel". It contains 2% Biodiesel. The original stuff should be available and still marked Ultra Low Sulphur.

I wouldn't be too concerned at all, your TD5 is a product of the Viton age and 2% BD will give the diesel a little more lubricity (which is good) It's definitely not enough to notice any other differences. Quite frankly, given that I use B100 all the time for the past 6000kms I think 2% is a pointless endeavour by Caltex... Which would account for no decrease in the price level.

They ought to encourage people to use B100 by removing the 40cents excise on it... fuel for 75cpl would sell!

I was under the impression diesel comes in a range of colours depending on how it's made as there is no standard for making diesel.

BP are about to release an 80% cleaner diesel soon but there brochure doesn't say it has any bio in it from memory.

its also about the time that the summer mix is changed over to winter mix..

the cut off temp is about 4 degrees celcius and Id suspect that its coming in early so that the underground tanks all have the right stuff in em for winter.

winter diesel goes ok in summer but not vice versa (esp if you live in the highlands)

I got Caltex diesel in Esperance last week,it was VERY yellow,I would be pretty peed off if it was biodiesel,I dont want it in my vehicle.
Did use 1/4 of a tank more on the way home,but was sailing into a stiff wind.

Why don't you want Bio Diesel in your vehicle?

The TD5 isnt bio diesel friendly,and the injectors are over $1000 each if they fail.I can buy a heap of DINO diesel with 5 grand.Wouldnt hesitate to put biodiesel in the Trytoo,its no different in technology to a TDI.
