Anyone with a digital spirit-level want to earn a quick 6-pack?

    G'day all,

We need to know the angle(s) of our driveway.

It's only a short driveway and if we had a spirit-level with a digital readout on it, I doubt it would take more than 30 mins to get all the angles.

I'm not fussed on spending the $$$ on a spirit-level with a digital readout for 1 exercise though.

Is anyone in the Brisbane area interested in coming around for an hour one day to help measure up our driveway? As stated there's a six-pack of your favourite beer in it for you... Or if anyone would be kind enough to lend us a spirit-level with a digital readout, I'll supply a six-pack for that also

Don't need the digital spirit level.

A piece of string as long as the drive. and a stick.

From the high point fix the string, and run it to the low point, then hold it so it is straight...you know level (a good eye is handy), then hold the stick between the string and the lowest point............mark off and measure.

Measure the distance between the stick and the highest point.

Transpose that onto paper @ a scale that will fit ........then just measure the angle.

    Simple.

Take a length of clear plastic hose filled with water (food dye will assist).
An assistant holds one end of the hose at one end of the drive and you walk to the other end of slope with your end raised to same height. Measure drop.
Tip; put your thumb over the end while walking and until you are close to same height to dampen the sloshing in the hose.

The piece of string method worked for me on our old 125m long driveway in Mt Evelyn. Just make sure you get one of those hook on string spirit level and you put that at the top of the drive where some one can see it and pull the string tight.

I just used a 4m piece of timber with a notch cut in it to hold the string and ran the string down the back.

Got near the bottom and put the timber one end on the ground and the other tied to the fence at ground level, puld tight and slowly walked back up to find level and then measured the length of the drive between ground level and the timber.

Gave me 1 in 30 or close enough to it so then you need a little maths to work out the rest.

Just work out the drop e.g. 1 in 10 , 1 in 5 etc and then use cm's on paper to work out a scale then you should be able to work out the angle.

Or find some one with a digi level or theotallight (I think thats how you spell it), the thing that servayers use.

    Have fun.

    Hey Grizzles

I'll go one better. Dumpy and staff .... + thirst
Just around the corner at East Brisvegas, but no can do before Sat week.
Or I have a 2 metre spirit level which you can use in lieu of the string + it's got a marked adjustable bubble at one end.
You can borrow either/both if you want to sort earlier.

    Cheers

We have one of the levels you are after at work but I'm not at work this week and it is 2 hours away.
However if you still haven't done it next time I can get a hold of it then I'll grab it.
