    Which Drive-in?

    Hello to all,

Following on from Outlaw's thread I got to thinking about all those trips to the drive-in. I was spoilt for choice in the 70's as I was within at most, 10 minutes drive between 3 of them. Sandringham, Moorabbin and Oakleigh. A lot of good memories, as well as very good and very bad films. Even today, my kids love a trip down tha Peninsula to the Dromana 3 screens. Warm nights, pull out the fold up chairs and enjoy.

I used to love my local drive-in at Labrador... but some all and might so and so's decided to build a Harbour Town where it was... took me around 10 years to work up the courage to enter boganville and go to the yatala one.

Started going when i was 15 with mates who had licences... sit up the back with the speakers in the back of 4bys, utes or the foldup chairs, esky food and a good night ahead.

Best things were the Dusk to Dawn sessions starting at 7pm and driving home as the sun is coming up.

Dandenong Lunar drive in we go to regularly, cheaper to take the Kids and they dont complain as much and neither do I as we all have our own space.

The kids have been known to get out and sit on the bull bar as the disco hump in the roof gets in the way in the back seat.

Also you can take your own food and drink in so we do the trip to the supermarket on the way and chuck drinks in the wacko in the back so all it costs is entry.

The drive in is the best way to go to the movies IMO much better than sitting next to some smelly bloke or 2 teenages making out the whole time the lights are out with no elbow room or leg room and some tall bloke infront of you so you have to sit sideways in the chairs that are only comfortable if you are the size of a 7 yo kid.

Disco at the drive in is much better and if I want to I can park at the back and open the tent up and lay up there in comfort.

I agree with you totally. Ocassionally I take my daughter and a couple of her friends. Been doing it since she was 7 and now she's 11. Stop on the way there, get a load of fish'n'chips, have the esky with drinks etc, they love it. Especially on the warmer nights. I open the sunroof on the old Rangie, they sit on the roof and think it's the bees knees.

I just got a laugh remembering the last time we went to a Drive in. I was taking my (to be) wife to the one in Burwood here in Melb probably around 26 years ago..
There was a nudie flick on and every time some boobs came on the screen there was a fanfare of toots and whistles and some fool down the front kept flashing the screen with his driving lights which completely whitouted the whole picture.
After a while my wife got annoyed with this joker and said "why does he keep doing that??"
I couldnt help myself and said it was a religious group that travel around the countryside censoring everything and preaching about the sins of the flesh etc.
Jeez I got some mileage out of that one

I last went to the drive-in (in Carnarvon) in 1971. I know the year because we were in our new Hillman.

That was the second last time I went to the pictures.
