    Red cap

    Forgot to mention yesterday.
On Thursday night about 12-15 am on the ABC, I watched " Red cap ".
A fictional show about Pom commando's in Bosnia.
Cripes you should have seen all of the military Landrovers and hardware
running around ! A beautiful sight ! I felt that I should probably tuck me
foot under the chair so as not to get it run over.
Cuppla good looking ladies too. Love those girls in uniform.
I reckon I will watch it next week, also.
    Cheers.

    Red Cap

Red Caps are not commandos they have green berets and are marines not army units, army units disbanded its commando units after WW 2

Red Caps are military police who were established as a unit by Duke Wellington whilst he was on his Iberian Campaign against the French to keep order amongst British Army soldiers to prevent them looting and raping civilians

that and the order by Wellington than anyone caught stealing looting raping arson pillaging was to be immediately hung.

Military Police red cap was chosen as distinctive head gear they used to at time of Wellington used to wear those metal dog breast plates like you see the ss troopers in ww2 movies wear.

Its interesting that police whether military or civilian are hated generally by the society that they are monitoring and protecting. Must be the rest of the population have natural criminal tendencies if left unchecked.

Gee and I thought I was the only up up at a ridiculous time, bloody good show,
well after all it was british, a bit over the top with the millitary investigation stuff, met and socialised with a few of them when i was in the falklands, they were a bit different to the ones portayed on the show.( not quite brain surgeons, more like kennel attendants)
Anyway that blonde Tamsin is a stunner ,who when how why and all the rest, have to set the alarm for the next episode when they get to germany.

Quite a few years ago,a journalist team took a survey of the occupations held in lowest esteem by Australians . The bottom levels were, in what order I can't remember were police informers, scabs, provos, screws(prison warders), real estate and car salesman.

I started work as a 12yo in 1953. I worked with WWI and WWII diggers, not one of whom had a kind word for a provo. Provos were regarded as dishonest thugs, bashers, and cowards, particularly the British red caps, who were regarded as fair game for a stray shot, being run over, thumped, disregarded, & held at gunpoint if necessary to keep them away from diggers. There was a Tobruk, Milne Bay, and Borneo veteran in Brisbane, who, in the 40's to 60's, regarded it as his lifes work to seek out WWII provos and bash them in return for what he got in North Africa & Palestine. He probably got too old to keep it up.
