Thanks, My Dads family were Irish, my X father inlaw was born there and a lot of my family are still there and I dont think there is 1 IRA terrorist or extreamist christian in the lot of them.

Thats a pretty broad sward you threw there but as in all cultures there is good and bad amongst us all and that is true about some Irish as well.

I think most have missed the point of the restricted access, it's restricted to areas that have in the past and up to today been damaged by some of the morons travelling the area, now restricting access to all is not a good thing, but does anyone know of a good way to stop these halfwits damaging the tracks and areas that other normal people travel to enjoy.

Having spent alot of time in the deserts of WA. The new access laws will affect very few on this site. The stock route is very long and remote and the banned areas are quite often a long way off the main route and after some of the storms passing through in the last year would be all but impassable. They are no better or more interesting than the remaining areas. The logistics to reach all the sites mentioned is well beyond the range of a few amatuer 4wders. The time to cover all these areas would be at least 8 weeks!
From my experience 2 weeks in remote deserts is enough as the scenery doesnt change all that much and the canned food and crappy water starts to take effect.
The loss of access to the Calvert Range is disappointing as this contains historical significance and is a good place to camp.

We are hoping to do the CSR and i was just looking at some of the areas that have been restricted, some are close but as you said some are a fair way from the track, still a shame that a minority spoil it for everyone:(

A good way to stop the cowboy 4wd's is that when you see them doing something stupid, take their number and report them.

Normally nothing happens but if enough poeple see the same idiot doing stupid stuff over and over again and report them, the coppers do their thing.

I had a bloke charged with dangerous driving once when he decided to drive through a kids swiming hole, while the kids were still swimming.

He nearly ran over my daughter and my wife and a bunch of other kids, I had to be restrained by other campers because I was trying to drag him out of his window.

All his mates bragged that they had it on video so when I got the chance to call the cops they veiwed the video and charged him with dangerous driving and threatened to charge him with driving with intent to cause bodily injury.

This is a fair deterant I would think so if you see some one doing something seriously stupid or leaving rubbish etc, dob them in, it's not likely they will ever know it's you.

As I said before, ban the busses, that would solve a lot of the problem.

The CSR is an easement about 5km wide. The track that we call the CSR, doesn't run along the centre of the easement but wanders around within and in at least one place, outside the easement.

The native title areas we are discussing (with respect to the CSR) were granted quite a good while back. Durba Springs is outside the CSR easement.

AFAIK, the event that lead to the introduction of the permit system was, a group of aboriginal owners having a ceremony at Durba Springs, were told by a few tourists to f**k off!

Then the consultants got involved ...

One point that should be made, and this is where policing the permit system may become difficult, the actual CSR track isn't covered by the permit system, because the CSR is heritage listed, and being so a permit is not required, it is only if you venture off the track that a permit is required:bangin:
