    Defender price whinge.

I was chatting to a bloke recently who had a good whinge about the price I'm asking for my 2003 Xtreme and what others are wanting for theirs.
He complained that Redbook says 19 to 25 grand for mine but nowhere has he been able find one at that price anywhere in Oz either through a stealer or privately.

He reckons he got onto Redbook who say their prices are from feedback from the trade but we all know how trustworthy carsalesman are so maybe they don't/can't tell the truth even amongst themselves!

This bloke probably wants one that's never left the blacktop but has every conceivable extra attached, always kept under cover with very low klms for good measure and at a super discount price just for him.

I want to sell mine (but the cook doesn't want me too!)but aren't going to give it to some cheapskate or worse still get screwed by the above mentioned stealers who'll point out every speck of red dust and use it to discount the price by an extra grand or two.

He's off overseas on a very lucrative (his words) contract for a month so I'll just have to wait and see if he's managed to come to terms with the reality of it all or not and decides to spend a bit more and buy mine.

Has there ever been any really cheap good Defenders around at these low prices I wonder?
    Happy LRing.
    Alan.

It's the law of supply and demand. Defenders are becoming more sought after and will hold their price. When I bought my first 110 in 1996 I paid $18,000 for it from a dealer. When I sold it in 2002 I got $16,500 for it privately. $1,500 depreciation in 6 years, I cant complain.

My disco was a different story, lost $4,000 in 9 months

getting an insurance company to cover you at the increasing value is another story in my experience..

95 disco i could get agreed value of 17k with out a murmur
95 defender all i could get was 11k max agreed value.

makes it hard.... redbook values have been compromised in many cases but not all imho

    Alan.

Don't we all, eh, Alan? I'll have a low ks D3 that's only been delivering kids to school for twenty gs

Hang out and you'll get your price, if it's not too over the top.

    Cheers, GQ

Dealer prices for 1996 Defenders over here go for $25-35,000.
    1996 Disco's max out at $10-13,000.

I had some difficulty insuring mine through mainstream, eventually went to a specialist insurer and got an agreed value that is lower then the spend, but still reasonable.......all the mainstrweam would do was $11,000 pre work and $20,000 post work.

Firstly why are you selling your fender? You will miss it others here have said the same.

Fenders do seem to hold a bit better value than other Landie's. However late model Rangies and Discovery's you will do your @rse. Well I have with my D2 bought it new 6 years ago. But doesn't matter because its a keeper and I love it.

You could consider taking her to the bigger car auctions: ie: ManheimFowles or Pickles. The few that I have seen / Bidded on have all sold way above Red book value.
There was a white ex police Extreme with winch at Fowles in Sydney, they had a buy it now price of 26000 (just above red book value), I waited to see it go through the auction. It sold for 32000.
A few weeks ago a rolled 2003 extreme sold for 17500 here in Melbourne, so it proves that some people are willing to pay.
