    Why not to drive straight through a detour

    Apparently these pics were taken recently when a truck driver drove straight through a detour on the Kalgoorlie to Perth road. He supposedly escaped with only minor injuries. Talk about lucky.

    Shame his lack or reading skills didn't help at 110km/h the "EXCAVATION" sign gave him what 50metres to stop... I wonder if there were cautionary signs further down the road to alert him there was danger ahead.. if not there will be some blame juggling

    I would think there were signs further back (at least I would hope there were or the contractor could be in a spot of bother). Section of road does not look familiar and looks fairly good so could be between Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie. Looks like a mine emergency response trailer parked on the side of the road so could even be as far down as Southern Cross. I know between Balladonia and Caiguna on the Eyre highway there is a lot of this type of work going on as well.

    I got an email about this -
    Apparantly the storey was the driver was driving at night/very early morning and fell asleep, hence missing the detour road an into the new excavation for box culverts.

    Scary stuff.

    A new type of speed hump, in reverse?

    Poor guy, he's probably about 2 inches wide now.

    Maybe the builders of these culverts could put jump ramps on either side of the hole, just in case...

    He must have got a fair amount of speed washed off prior to impact, at 110km/h it would have been a lot worse...
