God if Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock can jump a bus across a larger gap than that in a bus then he should be able to do it in a road train over a smaller distance, he just needed more speed thats all.

He was bloody lucky, must have gone in hard, i reckon he would have had a days of thunder moment when tom cruise says to himself "this is gunna hurt" just before he hit the pit wall.

Overall l give a lot of respect to truck drivers abilities not to kill their fellow road users if you consider the number of miles they travel per accident.

Most truck drivers will tell you that one of the biggest problem is the customer demand for goods to be delivered at specified times that creates the problem of driver fatigue.

Yes there are horror stories about truck drivers , but we contribute to the pressure when we as customers demand tight schedule and drive times.

Law as it currently stands say cant drive more than 12 hours in day or mroe than 5 hours without 30 min rest break and cant be driving for more than 6 days in week, sounds fine in theory but it means for instance Melb to Sydney or Sydney to Brisbane overnight, disrupted sleep possible in truck during day or pulled over on side of road. Eventually the sleep deprivation builds up and an accident occurs.

If you want safer roads you will need to do more than increase road fines and truck inspections, you will need to change the l want it now delivery culture of customers and need to provide better overnight rest stops for truckies, you prepared to pay for it.

If you want to see how little we as a public care for truckies welfare see how many toilets and shower blocks are on the major roads which are accessible to semis driver virtually none outside truck fuel stops

I would not want to do their job they tend to be everyones scape goat and seen as a source of income in the form of fines for spelling mistakes and other stupid things, one truckie even being fined for having to many lights on display the over zealous inspector counting every single L.E.D. in his tailights and classing these as seperate lights.

Have heard that some interstate truckies having a N.S.W. levie as every time they drive through the state they get fined for stupid things (see above) and in some states there are not enough truck rest areas and are very far apart which leaves no real choice but to pull over on the side of the road if possible and park up or risk more fines and demirit points.

Do not forget the huge amount of paper work that must be kept for six years plus every state has different rules and want there own type of paper work filled out,it is getting harder to find people to drive trucks and the average age of a truckie is getting higher every year and if they all went on strike for a week how long would we last??

He must have got a fair amount of speed washed off prior to impact, at 110km/h it would have been a lot worse...
