Well for starters do an internet search of all the construction companies that are involved in major projectors and send your resume. COnstruction workers on major resource projects generally in Pilbara work 10 hour shifts 13 day fortnights on either a 4 week on 1 week off or 5 week on 1 week Fly in fly out roster, full board & accommodation provided on site, will earn around $120 to $150,000 depending on classification.
If you want to actually work in mines there are number of courses you can do such as haul pack driving, mine operator before you apply for work.
Again BHP and Rio Tinto operate some mines directly themselves but they also employ a mine management company to supply labour to operate mine such as HWT.
Mine operations staff are on shorter rosters on site 2 and 1 compared to construction staff, work shorter hours, but still average $100,000 per annum.
So again internet search and send off resumes
Warning all mines and construction companies do pre-start drug tests, these are urine tests and as such will detect drug usage for uo to 30 days prior to the test, so do yourself a favour if your serious and dont inhale or use any drugs pre-test, on site they operate random testing of between 10% and 30% of workforce depending on rates of detection occurring on site, the more they pick up the higher the number for random tests selected. They also have pre-start alcohol breath tests and all work sites are 0 level tolerant.
Accommodation is generally 4 single rooms to a block, single bed, tv in room, self contained shower and toilet, shared laundry facilities, wet & dry mess, health & fitness program on site and small swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court and walking track.
Hardest thing about mines work is your away from your family for 4 weeks at time can cause family problems in your personal relationships.
I am a fitter by trade and could not even get an interview because I didn't have mine experience. What I did was join a labour hire company and done labourers work to get on site.Once I was there I let anyone who ask know I was a tradesman and the offers flowed in.Do what you have to to get there and the rest will take care of itself. Troll through the BHP Website, contact their offices directly eg Belmont WA or 45 St Georges Tce. We have employed about 650 in the last 12 months. Also BHP is doing a huge expansion at Olympic Dam next year and will be employing 1000plus people.

If your already in construction you could chase up companies like Halliburton, United KG, Monodelphous, or even large civil mobs- S&N Concreting & Construction etc ( search mining in the good old yellow pages ) and find out what projects are going on. I have just left Roxby Downs and next year will be the start of about 7yrs major construction. Will be loads of work going on. The other alternatives are to become a plant operator or production operator. Seek, Careerone, BHP, Alcan, sites are allways advertising as are most large mining companies. Experienced people are getting thinner in this market due to high demand and these large companies are starting to hire inexperienced people pretty often.
Just throw your hat in the ring and see what happens.
I am a Mechanical/Diesel Fitter and I got myself into mining 10 years ago doing shutdowns, never looked back and always had work. Was only contracting for about 4 years and have been with the parent companies ever since. Got a 7days on 7 days off roster FIFO from Darwin. Lovin life!
Good luck 2 ya
Hey trolley make sure you look us up next week. I might be a bit busy but leave a message.
I hear the hole they intend to dig at Roxby will be bigger than Kalgoorlie's![]()
