Thread: Td5 power up

Too right Mike.

I've had the whole box and dice done, and here's a few observations:

- exhaust tone is fantastic - almost a V8 burble
- when it's all running right, you feel like it's almost capable of flying
- towing and overtaking power when it's all OK is amazing, and there is a clearly easier spool-up
- there are weird indefinable moments when it seems to lose power, yet when you turn the ignition off and on again, you seem to get it back
- the problem seems to be exacerbated on very cold starts, and if you boot it to the floor, then back off slightly and then boot it again (like overtaking on a long hill)

I've had it suggested that the TD5's in-built overboost and temp (cold) sensors are partly to blame in that they seek to limit engine damage, but to me it seems like the tune is out of sequence with these built in controls.

Despite all the testing that that supplier has done with dozens - perhaps hundreds of applications - you just don't have a sense of confidence. Can't think of another way of saying it.

Mind you, his tune on my TD5 disco II seemed to be less moody. I have been back several times and am now considering Tomb Raider's chip, along with an overboost protector that he supplies. I will go back one more time to give him one last shot as he also has to rectify my long range fuel tank (see separate post http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=30858) and cruise control (that's a whole other issue - the standard LR unit doesn't work with the GKN o/drive - wasn't told that when I ordered it!!).

I should also point out that the intercooler, air box and exhaust mods all appear to be fine - it's just the chip tune and boost setting that I believe is still not right.

Tell you what, part of me wishes I just waited for the 07 Defender - or met Mike sooner...

I had the exhaust on my 130 HS2.8 (read Tdi) for about $500 ish
3" mandrel bend from turbo to tip with 1 straight through turbo muffler (doing it agian I'd leave the muffler off )

mine cost $450 from front to rear 3in
with the flex bend and only a straight through hotdog muffler

anyone around Melb want it done let me know
