Storage Unit with Side folding table

    Dear aulorians

Months ago I set out to build a draw system for the back of D1, I wasn't really happy with draw systems that were on offer ,black-widow/outback etc, with no woodworking and / welding experience ....cut long story short 3 months later , here is the final product.

    3 draws

ARB storage box , secured down with turn buckles

40L engel Secured on engel bracket, and a 40L water tank taken from a mates Disco .

p.s what do you reckon about the ladder ?

Looks very impressive! I take it the 40L tank is at the rear (behind the seats).

As for the ladder - where do you put your spare now?

    Hi dm_td5

The 40 L water tanks sits right on top of wheel arch LHS of Engel Fridge.

sits where the child seats used to be

That makes sense! All I could think of was you were putting the spare on the roof.

Do you have a cargo barrier fitted? Those large items on top would make a mess of whoever they hit in an accident of you don't fit a barrier.

    No Cargo Barrier required

it's Designed to do away with Cargo Barrier,

40L engel secured to Engel bracket bolted down to draw unit ,so it's not going anywhere !!!!

The ARB tool box is secured down with Turn-Buckles
on top of that there is another strap that secures ARB Box futher using tie down points from the back to front. All Cargo is secure.

I have been many places ,Rock hopping /crawling
4wding on heavy corugated roads and never had anything come loose , or come off, everything else is fitted inside the draws.

Good to hear that you have thought the project through. It will be a great asset for you.

    Hi Barry

Thank you very much for your comments and concerns , I placed a lot of thought on ideas for this project,1stly on paper , designed a few different storage systems before I started building , I purly designed with thought of not having a cargo barrier.

one of the features of this storage unit is that the draws are actually wedge shaped, so they slide under the passenger seats for further storage space, it's a push-Pull design , which means by folding the 2 back passenger seats down cargo can be accessed from back seats from 2 Bottom draws. I can send more pics ?

Any comments on the ladder, it uses existing points that the spare wheel bracket used previously.

The ladder is a great idea. Your rear door will also thank you for taking the weight of the spare off it. It's a wonder that this has not been thought of before.
