    what options for Coil spring

Initially when I bought the disco , I ordered an OME coil + shocks combo Traction 4 told me the coil springs was 100 k constant coils, I think this was a mistake ! with the shelf unit + all gear in the draws + rear bar + water Tank full + fridge + all Food+ ARB Tool box and all gear inside it + spare tyre etc etc etc the **** end of the vehicle is now sagging , i reckon i've lost a bit on my exit angle , so anyhow have compensated by installing PolyAir bags , and am usualy running around 7-10 psi , how ever I now find Poly Airs to be a bit restricting on articulation , has anyone got any comments or ideas on choice of coils or perhaps the pressure in the air bags for rear to keep the car levels and give me good articulation and ride . any comments would ne much appreciated

I had the same problem. I upgraded the rear springs to OME763's at the rear. These are rated to carry a 200+ constant load. They performed very well on a recent trip to Tassie where we were carrying a fair load and also doing some hard driving.

They are a bit stiff and as such you wont get fabulous droop or articulation, but they are a good compromise between load carrying and articulation. They also kept the Disco at a good ride height...

Is the problem with loss of articulation when empty or full?

If when empty, just let some more air out of the polyairs.

If when full, well, you have to compromise somewhere. A set of lockers will overcome most lack of articulation problems.

I have seen them set up with remote operated compressor and dump valve so you can vary the ride hite of the rear on the run.

There are many variations on the spring scenario - I have just changed my OME 762's (310-340lb variable rate) to longer and softer linear rate springs (270lbs) and will be adding in airbags to handle the heavier loads.

I want a comfortable ride and good articulation and have therefore opted for this setup. Can't tell you what it's like yet but once I have had them in for a while I'll be able to give you more insight.

You could opt for the DIY method if the off the shelf springs don't do it for you. Decide on what compressed length is suitable and then take your old springs to a spring maker and ask them to make a particular spring to suit your needs.

    thanks guys

hey maggot that 's an excellent idea with onboard air and dump valves,

the king rims I've got inplace of the alloys (alloys bending too Easily , 2 flat tyres in same trip but that's another story) The King Rims have too much of an offset on the Rims and they tend to stick out from guards with the BFG tyres , I think this is also illegal ? therefore my 245/75R/16 BFG muddies are rubbing on the guards and it's distroying my 4xby when too much air let out from polyairs and guards are distroying the tyres on full articulation . This is where the Compromise comes in I think , let more air in the tyres, and Maxi on .

I have alreay modified the guards by cutting them as far as possible , The problem is nothing is carefully engineered , everything is slapped together by your truely who has not idea?

For OME stuff the best site I know of to do some homework is expeditionexchange.com. Have a look at their springs & shocks pages.

EFS have some good springs & always want to know exactly what mods you have so they can get the right spring rate for you.
